Here is an amazing idea to celebrate the start of your Happy Buddy’s School Year!Gig Harbor Scrapper, gives her Happy Buddies a Back to School Blessing every new school year.
This momma picks a Bible verse for each of her children to have as their “theme” verse for the year. She then writes the verse down and posts it in their home (the bathroom mirror is a great place to be reminded of God’s truths!).
Throughout the year, she prays the verses over each of her children and directs their hearts toward the verse as situations arise.
This year she threw a Back to School Blessing party and invited other moms and their children to join in the spreading of God’s unfailing encouragement!
She asked each mom to pick a theme verse for their child.
Then she typed up the verses, decorated them with some Back to School Stickers and put them in frames (from the Dollar Store). When everyone arrived on the day of the celebration they received their verse and ate a delicious cake (see the pics! The cake at the top of this post says, “God is our strength and our refuge Back to School Blessing Party 2010”).
I love some of the verses these moms chose for their kids…
Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” (to encourage the child who struggles to get good grades) and
Ephesians 5:1, “Imitate God in everything you do because you are His dear children” (to inspire the child to live for Christ in a classroom of unbelievers) and
2 Timothy 2:24, “Choose to be kind rather than to argue” (to help the child who struggles with stubborn responses) and
Proverbs 13:20, “Whoever walks with the wise grows wise but a companion of fools suffers harm,” (to remind the child to look for godly friends) and
Psalm 121:1-2, “I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord maker of heaven and earth” (to instruct a child to look to Jesus for strength and not to themselves).
I can just picture the victories these children are going to have as their moms consistently point them to the Lord!
Are you planning your Back to School Blessing Party yet? 🙂
Since Noah is not yet toddling off to school, I decided to Bless my Mom (she is a music teacher)! I wanted her Blessing to be near her at all times so I decided to make a..
Blessing TAG for her BAG!
Here’s what I did…
I took a picture of her, me and Noah on her first day of school this year. I decorated it with happy stickers and wrote “Back to School Blessing” above the picture. Then on the other side of the tag, I wrote this special little poem I created…
A Back to School Blessing from me to you
A bit of God’s Word to carry you through
This new school year from start to finish
A reminder His love will never diminish!
Then on the back of the tag I wrote the Bible verse I chose to “bless” her with in prayer this year: Psalm 68:3-4 “But may the righteous be glad and rejoice before God; may they be happy and joyful. Sing to God, sing praise to his name.”
The reason I chose this verse? If you know my mom, she is one of the most joyful people EVER. She is always so positive and encouraging. This last year, however, has been difficult for her at times, for one reason or another, and although she’s never lost her joy, I just wanted to choose a verse that would always remind her that the joy she has is because of what Christ has done and is continuing to do in her life!
And, of course, she is a choir teacher so the singing part is perfect for helping her to recall the GREAT purposes HE has for her this year as a music teacher.
Finally, I laminated the tag, punched a hole in one corner, and added a key ring and a polka-dotted piece of ribbon.I presented it to my mom and she loved it!!!!
NOTHING is more powerful than God and His Word! And when we combine His Word with prayer – what could be better? Moms, I challenge you to prayerfully choose a Bible verse that will be your child’s “theme” verse for the new school year.
Make a tag with the verse on it for their backpack! Call it a BACK PACK BLESSING! 🙂 They will love having something so special and personalized and so powerful.
Once that Back to School Backpack Blessing is in place, pray for your child – REALLY pray that verse for your child.
Then wait and see God work His magic this new school year.
“Pour out your heart like water before the face of the Lord. Lift your hands toward Him for the life of your young children.” Lamentations 2:19
