Christ-Centered Pumpkin Carving Poems

This year I thought it would be neat to carve a pumpkin with purpose.

Below you will find a few poems I found (I wish I knew who wrote them so that I could properly credit them…) that I think are super sweet in sharing with our Happy Buddies about The One who makes us shine.

Pumpkin Poem #1

I am a Jack O’ Lantern
My lights will shine so bright
For I’m a Christian pumpkin
My symbols tell what’s right

My nose is like the cross
On which our Savior died
To set us free from sin
We need no longer hide

My mouth is like a fish
The whole wide world to show
That Christians live in this house
And love their Savior so!

The story starts at Christmas
My eyes are like the star
That shone on Baby Jesus
And wise men saw from far

My color, it is orange
Just like the big bright sun
That rose on Easter Day
Along with God’s own Son

I don't remember the Image Source on this pic!

I used to use the next poem every year with my second grade class.

We’d pick a pumpkin from the patch, bring it back to our classroom, turn out the lights, and read the poem out loud while we carved.  It was so powerful and the kids loved it.

One year, a little girl was so inspired by the glowing pumpkin that she broke out into “Silent Night” right then and there!  Our little Christian pumpkin inspired spontaneous worship together.  I’ll never forget that moment.  I hope it blesses you, too!

Pumpkin Poem #2

God picks you from the patch, brings you in, and washes all of the dirt off.  Then, He cuts the top off and scoops out all of the yucky stuff.  He removes seeds of doubt, hate, greed, unforgiveness, etc.  Then, He carves a new smiling face and puts His light inside of you to shine for all the world to see.  Are you letting your light shine?  Shine for Jesus!

I don't remember the Image Source for this pic!

I also found another pumpkin devotion that is just like the one above, but it is a bit more in depth.  You can find the article by clicking here.

I love the idea of teaching our Happy Buddies to see Jesus in everything – even pumpkins! 🙂

Head to a Pumpkin Patch this weekend with your Happy Home.

Make it a very special date.  Pick up a pumpkin (don’t forget to bring a nice, big, orange one home for your neighbor), put some cider on the stove, fill the house with praise music, and carve away using one of these poems as a guide!Happy Pumpkin Carving! 🙂

Yesterday was my birthday! About a month ago, my adoptive niece, Alyssa, and I went to the garden and picked a pumpkin. At the time I said that I wanted to carve my first pumpkin on my birthday. (Something my parents would never let me do as a child because it celebrated evil.) Finding a way to celebrate God creating me and turning a negative memory into a positive one is something that I will never forget!

After battling a migraine for most of the day, I got up around 2pm and Alyssa helped me find the pattern online (your site!), pulled up a pillow on the kitchen floor, and shared the experience with me. What a great time!!! God is good!

I had a rough idea of the Christian message I wanted to show on my pumpkin. My face lit up (hee hee – pun) when I saw your post. I got so excited that I went straight to work and I didn’t read the poem until later last night. The words made me cry. What a blessing! Thank you for posting this!

You can see a picture of my pumpkin on my blog:

    God Bless,

So your post survives and thrives four years later! 🙂 I found your Jesus Pumpkin image on Pinterest, and it led me to you. I’ve been on your blog before. I used the image in my post today: http://graceglimmers.wordpress.com/2014/09/12/ready-for-fall/ Hope you have a happy home fairy day! May Jesus shine a bit from your pumpkin face and mine! 🙂 Jenn

Thanks so much for the poems and pictures. I am going to do 3 different devotions, for 3 age groups at Awana club tonight. I will carve 3 Jesus-O-Lanterns while presenting the gospel. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness will not overcome it. God Bless, 28-Oct-2015

  • I went to church today. It was so good and so needed. I haven’t been in weeks. It’s funny how I let myself get comfortable with that. I tell myself it’s easier to just watch church at home online. Which is not true because basically every time I do that the children start a wrestling match in the living room while I am trying to listen to the sermon. Or the baby poops during the opening song. Or someone is inevitably injured. But I tell myself how nice it was to not wake up early. How lovely to stay in

  • We got fancy last night for our neighbor’s wedding. ‍♂️The wedding was about an hour drive away, so we had lots of time for car conversations without kids. This usually means that I vomit all the stuff I have been trying to process on my own and Ryan swoops in with a few ultra wise one-liners that talk me off the ledge. Things I learned on the drive... 1. Stop watching the news. Our souls were not made for so much information. 2. Never stop dreaming. Even if your circumstances are hard and you feel all your creativity and hopes

  • When I had covid, this precious mama of mine called me every day. She dropped groceries on our doorstep (and even decorated them with Christmas lights ). She had food delivered to our house. She wore silly Christmas glasses and FaceTimed me to make me smile. She watched every single one of My ABC Truth Tree videos and liked them. She texted me every day to make sure I was taking medicine and drinking enough water. She prayed for me and reminded me that it would all be okay when I called her in tears on Christmas Eve worried that

  • It’s hard to believe that 17 years ago I slept through my alarm, set my veil on fire, had 9 precious flower girls walk down the aisle before me, and we made a covenant before God that we would love and serve each other forever. We don’t do it perfectly, but, by God’s grace, we keep showing up. And he never fails to make me laugh. Happy Anniversary to the best man I know! . Photo Credit >> @heatherholtphoto ✨

  • You know it’s family picture day when I put on lipstick, no one wants to wear the outfits I carefully picked out, and there’s a 100% chance of rain! So thankful for @heatherholtphoto and her expert abilities to capture what feels like a mess and make it into something beautiful. That’s some Gospel inspiration right there. Here’s to a 2020 Christmas card!
