Today the Happy Baby is one month old. 🙂

He is weaned off of oxygen (yay!) but he still needs a lot of pressure blown into his lungs to help them fully inflate (thus that crazy looking tube thing on his head.  I wept the first time I saw him wearing it!  But now I refer to it as his Superhero Hat.  All superheroes wear something on their heads, right??).

The medicine he is taking for the virus is working so far!  His blood work shows that the virus levels have dropped considerably.

But… he is still having breathing issues.

And because of his rapid breathing, the doctors do not want him to nurse or use a bottle for fear that he might aspirate and develop pneumonia.

Thus that tube-y thing coming out of his mouth.

SO.

There are still a lot of unanswered questions.

Every day is a bit of a roller coaster.

But we are trusting in Jesus.

We are clinging to His Word.

And believing that this little guy is going to have an uber awesome ministry one day as he shares how God SAVED his life – in more ways than one. 🙂

Much love and thanks,

Julie

“He will call on me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble,
I will deliver him and honor him.
With long life I will satisfy him
and show him my salvation. ”

Psalm 91:15-16

Your trials with happy baby make my heart so sad, but at the same time your amazing faith is an inspiration of the principle of displacement. I am learning about that in a bible study called one on one with god. I pray that god gives you the peace and strength you need each day. I also pray that your faith can be a testiment to others who might not be christians and as an inspiration to those christians that need to be renewed. Much love from a stranger! 🙂

Praying for your family. The scripture that you quoted is my absolute favorite chapter in the Bible. God has him “under his wings” like he said earlier in that chapter. Rely on him, and pray without ceasing. 🙂

    Dearest Julie,
I continue to pray for the Happy Baby, you and your sweet family. I read a devotional yesterday that brought you to mind….”There will be a day when you will look back and see how God’s sovereign hand was at work. Truth is, He is in the center of the situation that troubles your heart right now. He’s right in the middle of it. Look for Him, trust Him—He is at work.”
May God wrap you in His loving arms; may you feel His peace that passes all understanding as you take each day, moment by moment, trusting that the one who loves you most! “Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.” Ephesians 3:20 NLT

All this in his first month of life. I can only imagine what the future lessons from him will be! May you continue to be blessed!

    Hi Julie,

I just wanted to say that even though we’ve never met, and I’m far away in Australia, I find myself thinking of you and praying for your baby often. I find myself wondering how things are going and am amazed by your constant faith. You are an inspiration. I pray that your happy baby gets stronger and the virus goes away. I pray that the Doctors find the answer for you and the reason this is happening. I pray that your faith remains strong.
Thinking of you all the way from Down Under,

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail.
They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for Him.” Lamentations 3:22-24

We were fortunate that I was already wearing a CPAP mask before the baby started wearing one. Keep on kangarooing. It really makes a difference. Will they let you kangaroo for 3 to 4 hours at a time? They can do all the medical stuff while he is on you. That might even provide him with more comfort and strength. P.S Keep pumping. Every drop later (no matter how many or few) will make a big difference in his immunity. Prayers always.

  • I find myself spending more time looking at the world and the problems instead of looking at these 4 heroes right here. This is what needs our attention. This is where change begins. Spend time praying for them instead of scrolling vanity. Spend time memorizing God’s Truths instead of dwelling on flawed opinion. Spend time laughing and playing and breathing deep the smell of their necks. Spend time teaching and training and living in the ✨light✨. This is the future. God has great things coming.

  • Life Updates >> Ryan - This weekend I broke the garbage disposal for the 14th time in our 17 years of marriage and he has not yet given up on me and my lack of understanding of what NOT to put down there. Love always hopes! Noah - Playing on the school basketball team and totally killing it this year! I have no idea what is happening on the court most of the time, but I know enough when the ball swishes through the hoop! Jethro - Creative, funny Jethro. He loves to make people laugh. And he loves to

  • I went to church today. It was so good and so needed. I haven’t been in weeks. It’s funny how I let myself get comfortable with that. I tell myself it’s easier to just watch church at home online. Which is not true because basically every time I do that the children start a wrestling match in the living room while I am trying to listen to the sermon. Or the baby poops during the opening song. Or someone is inevitably injured. But I tell myself how nice it was to not wake up early. How lovely to stay in

  • We got fancy last night for our neighbor’s wedding. ‍♂️The wedding was about an hour drive away, so we had lots of time for car conversations without kids. This usually means that I vomit all the stuff I have been trying to process on my own and Ryan swoops in with a few ultra wise one-liners that talk me off the ledge. Things I learned on the drive... 1. Stop watching the news. Our souls were not made for so much information. 2. Never stop dreaming. Even if your circumstances are hard and you feel all your creativity and hopes
