The other day my husband told me a story about a woman who reported her missing German Shepherd on our Ring Neighborhood App. Within hours, people were reporting sightings of the dog. By the end of the day, the dog was safely reunited with her owner because of a community of people who chose to help. The owner posted her gratitude on the app.
She wrote, “Thanks to you, my Hope has been found.”
How fitting that the dog’s name was Hope – as hope is precisely what was found that day, in more ways than one!
In a world with increasing stories of people acting selfishly, angrily, and violently, we need more stories like the above. Stories where people are helping others, building community, and breathing hope into the hearts of those who feel that hope is lost.
With that in mind, today I am sharing 6 simple Christmas acts of kindness you can do with your family that are inspired by the hope that we have in Christ. Since Christmas is when Jesus came, this is the perfect time to share His light and love with others!
Meal for Pastor
The Christmas season is often the busiest one for the men and women who work in the church. Extra events and services to attend and/or plan can make getting a good meal on the table difficult. Lighten the load of your pastor and your pastor’s family by offering to bring a meal one night during the month of December.
Not sure what to bring? Try my easy and delicious Chicken Bruschetta Casserole or my famous Friendship Casserole. Have your kids stick some of these FREE Printable Christmas Joke Cards on the food items before you drop it off!
Candy Cane Legend
Bring hope to others by sharing the Gospel using this simple illustration found HERE. Attach the FREE Printable poem to candy canes and then have your kids pass them out to everyone you meet – the grocery store clerk, the bank teller, teachers, etc.
Paper Prayer Chain
Gather up some red and green construction paper, cut into strips and brainstorm a list of 25 people who your family wants to pray for throughout the month of December. Write one name per strip of paper. Staple the strips together and use as a decoration in your home as you take one link down each night before bed to lift the named person up in prayer. Don’t forget to tell the person that you prayed for them!
Christmas Eve Invitation
Have your kids make invitations to your church’s Christmas Eve service and then choose who you would like to invite. Pack a plate of Christmas treats (THESE are my favorite and fun to make with kids!) and deliver along with your invitation. Promise to save them a seat!
Nativity Ding Dong Ditch
Click HERE for a fun and easy way to bless a family with the Christmas Story continuously during the 12 days leading up to Christmas. Simply print the nativity cards and coordinating poems and deliver one each day to the recipient’s doorstep. Make sure to ring the doorbell and then run away! This kind of Ding Dong Ditching is allowed and appreciated. 😉
Give a Bible
Finally, Psalm 119:114 says, “You are my refuge and my shield; your Word is my source of hope.” If we want to truly bring hope to others, I can’t think of a better act of kindness this Christmas than to give someone the gift of God’s Word – the Bible!
One of our favorite Bibles for kids is The Beginner’s Bible. You can read all about the classic version of The Beginner’s Bible, which has been helping kids build their faith for almost 30 years, in THIS POST, but today I am featuring the brand new beautiful Beginner’s Bible Gift Edition that has a larger trim size, larger illustrations, and a gorgeous cover that gleams with foil!
Simply add a bow to this beautiful Bible and gift it to the young person in your world who needs God’s Word as their source of true and lasting hope.
Guess what??
I have partnered with the wonderful people at Zonderkidz to bring you a special Christmas giveaway today! The winner will receive TWO copies of The Beginner’s Bible Gift Edition! One to keep and one to give away as a special Christmas act of kindness!

Thanks for sharing all the great ideas! I would give the Bible to a family with 5 kiddos who live in the community near our church. Their grandparents brought them to church twice in the fall, but they live across the country. Their wish for their grandkids, is that they are brought to church. We have been reaching out and planting some seeds, but this Bible certainly help our outreach.

Hi! Thank you for this giveaway opportunity! I would give my second copy to my 7-year-old daughter’s friend. The friend is on her grade at school and has been coming to our church on a semi-regular basis for a few months now. They are newish Christians, and I see Mom in the crossroads, trying to decide if it’s worth her time. I think this could be a good way to engage my daughter’s friend and get discussions started at home. My daughter would love to be able to share it with her friend!

The family next door (unchurched) has three precious children…..two who are older and will be receiving Bibles from us that are more age-appropriate. The youngest child is four, and “The Beginner’s Bible” would be a wonderful gift to introduce the Gospel to him. Since his parents read to him, they would also be hearing God’s Word. I only need one “Beginner’s Bible”, so it would be wonderful if you gave it to another person who entered. Thank you for ministering through “Happy Home Fairy”!
Pat
I would give this to my 3-year-old grandson because I love him.
Elizabeth Potter

I would give this special bible to my granddaughter Clara who lives on the east coast – Maryland. I live in Wisconsin, so I can only pray for my son and my granddaughter. Clara is ten years old and I know she needs to hear the word to believe and her daddy is too busy to make going to church on a regular basis happen. This would mean so much to me!
