Preschool Welcome Center Reveal - SO many adorable ideas!

For the last 3 years I have taught the 2-and-3-year-old class at my church’s preschool.

I absolutely loved it!

But there was one thing about teaching that always kept me with one eye open for another job.

(And it had nothing to do with trying to potty train 12 toddlers.) 😉

Singing is my number one favorite thing to do.  It’s my first ministry with my Worship Pastor hubby.  We love singing and leading together on Sundays.

As a teacher, you talk and talk and talk all day long.  By the end of the first week of school my voice would be so raw and raspy you would have thought I was either 90 years old or I smoked like 3 packs a day.  It was awful.  And then my voice would stay that way for the rest of the 9 months of school.  I couldn’t wait for summers because I knew I would finally be able to get back on the worship team and sing again!

I didn’t talk about this too much on the blog, but it was a really trying season for me.  Every time I would open my mouth to sing out a praise song in church or in the kitchen or car or shower and nothing would come out, I had to learn how to quietly surrender that part of me that longed for my voice.  It’s that whole “He gives and takes away… Blessed be the name of the Lord,” thing. 🙂 (Job 1:21)

So when our little preschool decided to add an Administrative Assistant to their positions, I dropped my name in the hat right away.  Not only would I get to preserve my voice a little more, but also I could still be with the kids and help/serve/bless this amazing ministry in a new and different way!  Total win-win!

God is good.

(But He would still be good even if I didn’t change jobs and had no voice.) <3

This summer the school underwent some remodeling to help facilitate the new position.  I was going to need a desk and a space to welcome the families.  I wish I had some before pics of what the space used to look like because y’all it was a total transformation!  They literally removed a couple of closets, built a desk, repainted, added some super fancy technology, and they let me have some fun decorating!!

Today I am sharing the big reveal of our new Preschool Welcome Center AND a special exclusive surprise for my Happy Home Fairy readers!

What do you think?!

Basically I just went to Target and Hobby Lobby and bought one of everything. 🙂

By FAR my top favorite things about this space are the felt animal heads!  They are my friends.  We hang out.  They check my emails for grammar errors.  And the kids come by to wave at them and name them all each day.  The whole thing just makes me so happy.

The animal heads are hanging above some special photos that share our faith and mission as well as depict fun moments that are specific to our preschool.

The second thing I am obsessed about in this space are the adorable **wall decals** that say ‘Hello’ and ‘Jesus Thinks You’re Awesome’!  I discovered the cutest little etsy shop called The Lovely Wall and knew that our preschool welcome center needed some of what The Lovely Wall has to offer.  I am not even kidding that I could barely narrow down what I wanted because I wanted EVERYTHING.  Giant whimsical trees, polka dots, unicorns, inspirational sayings – you MUST check it out!  And the owner, Megan, is just the sweetest.  She custom made me the wall decal about Jesus and it makes me smile so big whenever I look at it!

If you want to make a HUGE statement and you are not an expert mural painter (ha!), I totally recommend getting one of The Lovely Wall’s decals!  They can transform the whole look and feel of a room!

And GUESS WHAT?! Megan is offering Happy Home Fairy readers 25% off ANY of her AMAZING WALL DECALS!  Just enter code happyhomefairy25 at checkout!!  Click HERE to shop!

My goal for the welcome center was to have a place that was warm, inviting, fun, and full of Jesus!  I feel Him in this place and I hope all of our precious preschool families do too!

If you’re interested in the specifics, here they are…

  • Felt Animal Heads – Target
  • Large Chalkboard – Pier 1
  • Hello Wall Sticker – The Lovely Wall
  • Oh Happy Day Banner – Hobby Lobby
  • White bookshelf – IKEA
  • Black and White Chevron Storage Boxes – Target
  • Jesus Thinks You’re Awesome Wall Sticker – The Lovely Wall
  • White picture frames – IKEA ($6.99 each!!!)
  • Bookworm Teacher Workroom sign – Designs by Ashley Nichole
  • Be Happy sign – Target
  • Have Fun pillow – Hobby Lobby
  • Pencil vase – instructions HERE
  • White framed bulletin board – Hobby Lobby

I hope you found some inspiration here. <3

Joyfully,

Julie 🙂

I know how much fun and work that was!! I flipped an entire building this summer.
Our church nursery switched places with our preschool. I got to choose paint, flooring etc!! I also used lots of wall decals to decorate rooms with, just ordered them from lots of different places but I will definitely be checking out The Lovely Wall. I will definitely “steal” some of your ideas!!!! Mary Lou

This looks amazing, as only you can do…so welcoming and fun for the kids and the teachers and the parents, too. How good is God that he has given you TWO ministries instead of one…trading in the voice-robbing teaching for your new position plus allowing you to continue year-round in your position singing with the Worship Team. So proud of what you and God can do together!

I love it, Julie! So bright and happy! And I’m thankful for the way this will save your voice for music ministry. I always smile to remember one Christmas Eve service at Rio when my grandson Robbie was about to turn two. You and Ryan sang a duet that was sobering and beautiful. Into the holy silence in the worship center following the final note, Robbie called, “YAY!” :o)

How welcoming Julie! Great job! Looks like you guys use First Look – so do we (up here in NJ) and we LOVE it! As the Children’s Ministry Dir, I think I’ll piggy back on your idea and post the 3 Truths prominently like you did, animal heads included, so the parents can piggy back on what we’re trying to teach their kiddo’s. We just started in March of this year with First Look.

God bless your ministry and your family! THANK YOU for sharing!

  • I forget the tooth fairy almost every time. I cut out the lunch box notes but forget to put them in the pails. I leave laundry in the washing machine until it needs to be washed again. I could have made the chicken and broccoli sheet pan recipe for dinner but ended up ordering pizza. Praise God that He fills in the gaps of all my good intentions. I don’t do everything perfectly but I can invite Him into everything. Instead of wallowing in my shortcomings, He says to acknowledge Him in all of our ways and He will make

  • Quite possibly the best thing about ✨Disney✨ was experiencing it through Zion’s eyes! Whenever he would get excited about something he could not wait to share his joy with others. A monorail would drive by and he would light up and say “choo choo!” Then he would run to each member of the family repeating “choo choo!” until we responded with the same excitement. Looking ahead to Easter and this made me think how the believer’s “choo choo” is the resurrection of Christ! Like Mary was instructed in the garden to “Go!” and tell others about what she saw, we

  • Jethro was playfully chasing Zion around the house, but somewhere along the way it started to scare Zion. As a result, Zion would run into the kitchen to find me saying, “I need up!” over and over so that I could lift him into my arms for safety and comfort. ✨ The whole scene played in my mind for the rest of the day as I thought of all the things that chase after me throughout the day to make me fearful, anxious, or despairing.
