10 Great Ideas for Water Balloons

really great water balloon ideas to beat the summer heat! When the temperatures are soaring and there’s sweat dripping everywhere, one of the best things you can do to cool down is grab an armload of water balloons.

A good old fashioned water balloon fight is really and truly the greatest thing ever, but it is always fun to mix it up.

So here is a post to bring you a burst of inspiration. :-)

This is a similar concept…  Stick a small toy into a balloon, fill it with water, tie, then put in the freezer.

*I suppose it would be worth noting that this particular ‘water’ balloon activity should not involve any kind of throwing at one another – ouch.*

I am a BIG fan of Ding Dong Ditch-ing random things to neighbors, so this idea from Pennies of Time really spoke to me.

This Happy Home filled up a bunch of water balloons, put them in a box, and left them on the doorstep for another family to find and enjoy on a super sweltering day.

Talk about AWESOME.  I mean, we would all be having water balloon fights a whole lot more if they weren’t such a pain to fill up, right?!  Do it so that someone else doesn’t have to!!  Love it.  Sounds like Jesus to me.

Dear Lightning Bugs, I Miss You.

such cute lightning bug craft ideas for summertime! One of the best things about summertime in the small New Jersey town I grew up in was catching fireflies.

My brothers and I would find a jar and fill it up so fast!

Some of my first babysitting jobs were in the summer of 1995.  I was so nervous and I remember asking my mom what in the world would I do with my new little clients before their bedtime?!

She responded cheerfully, “Catch fireflies!”

It was a terrible realization when my family relocated to Florida a few years later and we found that there were no. lightning bugs. anywhere.

I am now coping by putting together a fun little post that celebrates those blinky, happy little buggies.

10 Creative Ways to Have Fun With Foil

fun with foil - so many easy activities using foil!

We are slowly checking things off our Summer Bucket List!

One thing that I am really looking forward to doing is a Tin Foil River (see below) in our front yard!

But it has been pretty gloomy and rainy most of the week, so we haven’t gotten around to it yet.

Having a big roll of aluminum foil on hand has got me to thinking (and googling) – what are some other awesome ways we could use this shiny stuff?

Here is a compilation of several really creative ideas that I found to help beat summer boredom with foil in the coming days.

Nature Bracelets

wrap duct tape around your child's wrist, send them outside and let them decorate their 'bracelet' with items they find in nature! I LOVE THIS!

I was poking around through the Happy Buddy’s Happy Activity Bag the other day and we came across this idea to make Nature Bracelets.

nature bracelets1All you need is a giant roll of masking tape.

*Pardon the bucket on the Happy Buddy’s head.  He insisted that it was critical to the success of this blog post.*

nature bracelets2Wrap a piece of tape around your Happy Buddy’s wrist.

nature bracelets3nature bracelets4Then head outside to collect items from nature and stick them to the tape!

The Happy Buddy added leaves, pieces of grass, broken sticks, and those furry pine needly things to his bracelet.

He wanted to put an entire tree on there, but we had to be realistic.  I have no idea how to uproot a tree. :-)

nature bracelets5This was a really fun little activity that required hardly any effort or materials!

It was just what we needed to pass a lazy summer afternoon.

Easy Summer Sun Paper Plate Craft

easy summer sun paper plate craft! sooo cute!Yesterday we kicked off summer around these parts with the reveal of our Summer Bucket List.

In between checking off our list, we are having fun with a few easy craft projects while the Happy Baby naps.

This Summer Sun Paper Plate Craft turned out absolutely adorable and we were able to make it with a few supplies I picked up at Target!

craft supplies

The key ingredients to this craft were all the bright colors and the cute patterned tape from the kid’s craft aisle at Target.

adorable summer sun paper plate craftOf course, I had to make my own sun.

adorable summer paper plateBut I liked the Happy Buddy’s better.

I used to be so controlling about the Happy Buddy’s painting – I would seriously finish painting the entire plate for him if he didn’t do it himself (anybody else a little OCD like that?!?!) – but now I have learned to LOVE his haphazard paint job and think it gives his sun some seriously sweet personality.

There is so much beauty in the imperfect, amen?!

adorable paper plate craft

These guys just make us smile every day.

And while you’re busy painting and taping your suns, it’s the perfect opportunity to remind our Happy Buddies what it means to shine brightly for Him!

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16

Summer Bucket List

such a cute and simple summer bucket list at happyhomefairy.com!I know I am dreadfully behind on getting ‘summer-y’ posts out to y’all.

I just needed the right inspiration to kick me in the pants, shall we say.

When I saw THIS chalkboard Summer Bucket List, I thought, I can do that!

So today during the Happy Baby’s nap, the Happy Buddy and I brainstormed some things we want to do this summer and I jotted it all down on the chalkboard hanging in our entryway.

I kept our list a bit small because I have to keep things realistic here.  Most days we are pretty happy just hanging out in pajamas playing with trains and cars.

But then there are other days (like today) where I was desperate for this list of ideas because if we stayed in our house another minute I think the fact that there is only one square inch of flooring that isn’t covered in some sort of crumb, raisin, or unidentifiable small thing would have sent me over the edge.

And as you can see, we have already been getting busy checking off our boxes – thanks to inclement weather.

Personally, I am unbelievably psyched about the kickball.  A zillion years ago I wrote a post HERE about how my mom and dad would take us out in the middle of the night for family kickball games during the summer.  It. Was. Awesome.  So I spent like 2 hours this morning trying to coordinate schedules with 30 different husband’s-side family members to nail down a date.  And yes, we were victorious.

Family Kickball Game is happening July 21st {KAPOW!}.

Octopus

This summer the Happy Hubby has been doing quite a bit of scuba diving.

I am not going to lie.  Seeing him in a wetsuit is pretty awesome (wink!).

When he returned from one of his dives last week, he told me that he had seen an octopus!

That got me all inspired and now I just can’t wait to share with the Happy Buddy about this crazy, 8-legged-suction-cupped-cephalopod.

This is such a simple way to make an octopus!

Learn Create Love shows you how with a toilet paper roll, some paint, and a pair of googlies.

Who doesn’t love bubble wrap??

Adventures In Mommy-Land made this colorful guy by decorating a paper plate and then painting strips of bubble wrap for all those arms.

I am super excited to report that the Happy Buddy just added hot dogs to the list of 6 things he eats.

I wish it were broccoli or asparagus instead of processed pork, but oh well!  Baby steps.

I think I might surprise him with this Octopus Hot Dog from The Craftinomicon for lunch one day this week.

A. Well-armed! :-)

Target Practice

Been trying to get the Happy Buddy potty trained over here.

We are SO CLOSE.

But boy won’t even think about going No. 2 in the toilet.

He will literally hold it for days until he has an opportunity to go in a diaper!

In our potty training efforts, many have suggested tossing a few Cheerios into the water for the Happy Buddy to aim at as target practice – a fun way to spice up the whole potty process.

It got me to thinking of other great ways your Happy Buddies can get some Target Practice this summer…

A stack of cups and a dollar store water pistol gives your Happy Buddies hours of outdoor, cool and refreshing fun!

Check out Inner Child Fun for this great Water Pistol Target Range.
