Resurrection Eggs for Toddlers

I love the idea of doing Resurrection Eggs, but with the 12 eggs and sometimes a little complex parts of the story, I have always imagined us doing them when the Happy Buddy is a bit older.

When I saw these Resurrection Eggs for Toddlers, however, in the March/April edition of Thriving Family, I knew I had to try them out in our Happy Home.

With just 6 eggs, a simple story-telling sentence for each, and easy peasy items to go inside, these Resurrection Eggs for Toddlers are so doable!

And so much fun!Gather 6 different-colored plastic Easter eggs.In the first egg, place a bread crumb.

Jesus ate dinner with his friends.  Luke 22:14-15

In the 2nd egg, place a cross (we just used a sticker we had in our stash).

The next day Jesus died on the cross.  John 19:17-18

In the 3rd egg, place a strip of cloth (we used a piece of tissue).

He was wrapped in cloth and placed in a tomb.  John 19:40

For the fourth egg, go outside and pick out the coolest rock you can find.

A stone was placed in front of the tomb.  Matthew 27:59-60

Leave the fifth egg empty.

Jesus’ friends came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been moved.  The tomb was empty!  Luke 24:1-3

Fill the 6th and final egg with a sweet treat.

We did M&Ms in our case because that’s the Happy Buddy’s idea of a major food group.

Jesus is alive!  That’s the sweet surprise of Easter.  Matthew 28:5-6

And I thought I’d share a few images of the Happy Buddy as we walked through the Gospel together. 🙂One of my favorite moments was when the Happy Buddy did something that communicated his full understanding of the Easter message he had just received.

He dug through his ‘treat’ egg, picked out all of the yellow M&M’s, and gave them to me – because yellow is my favorite color.

Talk about a sacrifice!

      Lisa, I am having computer/scanner issues, so I am sorry it isn’t in a PDF! Here is what I suggest… Right click the image and copy/paste it into a Word Document. Then you can print it to your heart’s content! Let me know if that helps…

    Oh Julie—this is absolutely PRECIOUS!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this idea!!! We keep our Resurrection Eggs out literally all year because my girls enjoy going through them so much. You Happy Buddy finding the yellow M&M’s for you is just too adorable!!! I LOVE that kid!!! 😉

    This is great! It inspired me with an idea for an Easter egg scavenger hunt for my toddler. For each egg, I wrote a little poem that includes a part of the Easter story and/or Gospel message, a picture, and a clue to find the next egg. The baskets at the end have mostly Christ-centered gifts, like books, preschool devotional, Veggie Tales and What’s in the Bible DVDs, Jesus Loves Me teddy bear, cross necklace. Thanks so much!

    Thank you! This is perfect for little ones! My girls are just 3 and 1. This is just enough for them to begin to understand the gospel truth! I am also planning to use this for our preschool storytime at church this week. Can’t wait to share with other moms of little ones there!

    Aloha! Mahalo for this idea! I just found the 12 Eggs of Easter minutes ago, and thought to myself the exact same thing. We have a 4 year old and a 1 year old. This is PERFECT for our toddler. Happy Easter from Maui! <3

    This is one of the best resurrection egg ideas I’ve seen. The visuals will really help my girls to recall the Easter story.

    One question though, I’d like to do it every day of this Easter week to help them learn the story better (my kids love repetition). So I’m not really keen on doing candy every day (although that’s a great idea for a one off for sure)! Does anyone have any other ideas for something that symbolizes a surprise, or maybe a celebration that Jesus is alive that I could pop in the egg? I’m thinking a balloon or maybe just a picture of something like the cross…

      Fill it with confetti, or a little noisemaker, or maybe a sweet but healthy treat. Or if you have an idea that won’t fit in the egg, put a little note in there that says “Look in the _____ for a surprise!”

    Ryan is outside hanging Christmas lights and the boys are hiding “turkey feathers” in the back yard for one another to find. Zion is crawling around pulling all the things off and out of all the things and I am getting ready to put on my  @spanx  faux leather leggings so that I can eat all the mashed potatoes later at Grammie’s.     So thankful that Hurricane Dorian took a turn away from our area because if it hadn’t, we would not have been able to pop over to Mom-Mom’s house and celebrate her birthday with her yesterday. . I’ve been all tangled up in knots trying to think of something to get my mom for her birthday because what do you give to someone who you wish you could give EVERYTHING? No new shoe or gift card can express how much I love and admire and appreciate this lady. So we showed up on her doorstep with birthday headbands and party blowers

    Jet came to school without shoes, the baby didn’t make it out of his pajamas, the boys desperately need haircuts, and we read nothing on the summer reading list. We didn’t feel put together today, but we felt the fresh hope of new beginnings and sharpened pencils! ✏️✏️  #backtoschool
