Resurrection Eggs for Toddlers

I love the idea of doing Resurrection Eggs, but with the 12 eggs and sometimes a little complex parts of the story, I have always imagined us doing them when the Happy Buddy is a bit older.

When I saw these Resurrection Eggs for Toddlers, however, in the March/April edition of Thriving Family, I knew I had to try them out in our Happy Home.

With just 6 eggs, a simple story-telling sentence for each, and easy peasy items to go inside, these Resurrection Eggs for Toddlers are so doable!

And so much fun!Gather 6 different-colored plastic Easter eggs.In the first egg, place a bread crumb.

Jesus ate dinner with his friends.  Luke 22:14-15

In the 2nd egg, place a cross (we just used a sticker we had in our stash).

The next day Jesus died on the cross.  John 19:17-18

In the 3rd egg, place a strip of cloth (we used a piece of tissue).

He was wrapped in cloth and placed in a tomb.  John 19:40

For the fourth egg, go outside and pick out the coolest rock you can find.

A stone was placed in front of the tomb.  Matthew 27:59-60

Leave the fifth egg empty.

Jesus’ friends came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been moved.  The tomb was empty!  Luke 24:1-3

Fill the 6th and final egg with a sweet treat.

We did M&Ms in our case because that’s the Happy Buddy’s idea of a major food group.

Jesus is alive!  That’s the sweet surprise of Easter.  Matthew 28:5-6

Here is a helpful guide to use when sharing these Resurrection Eggs with your toddler…

And I thought I’d share a few images of the Happy Buddy as we walked through the Gospel together. 🙂One of my favorite moments was when the Happy Buddy did something that communicated his full understanding of the Easter message he had just received.

He dug through his ‘treat’ egg, picked out all of the yellow M&M’s, and gave them to me – because yellow is my favorite color.

Talk about a sacrifice!

“This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.” 1 John 4:10

Happy Resurrection Eggs for Toddlers-ing! 🙂

Lisa, I am having computer/scanner issues, so I am sorry it isn’t in a PDF! Here is what I suggest… Right click the image and copy/paste it into a Word Document. Then you can print it to your heart’s content! Let me know if that helps…

This is awesome. Thanks so much. I agree with the Happy Buddy that M&M’s are a major food group. If my waistline allowed, I’d eat them every meal. 🙂

This is great! It inspired me with an idea for an Easter egg scavenger hunt for my toddler. For each egg, I wrote a little poem that includes a part of the Easter story and/or Gospel message, a picture, and a clue to find the next egg. The baskets at the end have mostly Christ-centered gifts, like books, preschool devotional, Veggie Tales and What’s in the Bible DVDs, Jesus Loves Me teddy bear, cross necklace. Thanks so much!

This is one of the best resurrection egg ideas I’ve seen. The visuals will really help my girls to recall the Easter story.

One question though, I’d like to do it every day of this Easter week to help them learn the story better (my kids love repetition). So I’m not really keen on doing candy every day (although that’s a great idea for a one off for sure)! Does anyone have any other ideas for something that symbolizes a surprise, or maybe a celebration that Jesus is alive that I could pop in the egg? I’m thinking a balloon or maybe just a picture of something like the cross…

Fill it with confetti, or a little noisemaker, or maybe a sweet but healthy treat. Or if you have an idea that won’t fit in the egg, put a little note in there that says “Look in the _____ for a surprise!”

  • I find myself spending more time looking at the world and the problems instead of looking at these 4 heroes right here. This is what needs our attention. This is where change begins. Spend time praying for them instead of scrolling vanity. Spend time memorizing God’s Truths instead of dwelling on flawed opinion. Spend time laughing and playing and breathing deep the smell of their necks. Spend time teaching and training and living in the ✨light✨. This is the future. God has great things coming.

  • Life Updates >> Ryan - This weekend I broke the garbage disposal for the 14th time in our 17 years of marriage and he has not yet given up on me and my lack of understanding of what NOT to put down there. Love always hopes! Noah - Playing on the school basketball team and totally killing it this year! I have no idea what is happening on the court most of the time, but I know enough when the ball swishes through the hoop! Jethro - Creative, funny Jethro. He loves to make people laugh. And he loves to

  • Baby Zion is now officially acting like a toddler! We have mastered the words “No” “Mine” and how to go boneless when you don’t want mom to pick you up. Gearing up for this season of parenting with some truths >> ✨It is kindness that leads us to repentance.✨ It is love that covers over a multitude of sins.✨ It’s funny how doing this the third time isn’t as angering as it was with the first 2! • I went to church today. It was so good and so needed. I haven’t been in weeks. It’s funny how I let myself get comfortable with that. I tell myself it’s easier to just watch church at home online. Which is not true because basically every time I do that the children start a wrestling match in the living room while I am trying to listen to the sermon. Or the baby poops during the opening song. Or someone is inevitably injured. But I tell myself how nice it was to not wake up early. How lovely to stay in

  • We got fancy last night for our neighbor’s wedding. ‍♂️The wedding was about an hour drive away, so we had lots of time for car conversations without kids. This usually means that I vomit all the stuff I have been trying to process on my own and Ryan swoops in with a few ultra wise one-liners that talk me off the ledge. Things I learned on the drive... 1. Stop watching the news. Our souls were not made for so much information. 2. Never stop dreaming. Even if your circumstances are hard and you feel all your creativity and hopes
