I turned 35 last week and I celebrated by coming home from work and taking a nap.  And then eating a pizza.  Because the best way to celebrate an aging metabolism is to eat more pizza.

This year I felt overwhelmed by the amount of kindness and generosity I experienced on my birthday!  The day was filled with so many thoughtful little blessings from people I love.  It not only fed my soul, it gave me a ton of new ideas to bless others on THEIR birthdays!  I want to share some of those ideas with you today!

But before I share the ideas, here are 2 important tips as you set out to make someone’s birthday special…

KNOW WHAT THE BIRTHDAY PERSON LOVES

This is key!  As you will see on the list below, you will need to know what your birthday person loves.  Favorite drinks, treats, snacks, stores, or even details like whether or not they like surprises.  Birthdays are for spoiling and it isn’t really spoiling if you give them something they don’t like!

TRY TO DO THESE IDEAS IN THE MORNING on their birthday

There is something about the morning of your birthday where the magic happens.  I love that my parents call first thing in the morning on my birthday.  It’s also fun to wake up to other birthday surprises like a special sign, balloon decoration, or breakfast.  Try to start the birthday person’s day off on the right note!

For friends, family members, co-workers, and loved ones >> here is a compilation of 25 simple little ways you can celebrate someone’s birthday!  Some of these ideas are inexpensive, some are a bit more, but they are all E-A-S-Y and FUN and guaranteed to make the birthday person happy.

25 Simple Ways to Celebrate Someone’s Birthday

  1. Write a card.  Take the time to write a meaningful message.  One of my favorite gifts this year was a TWO PAGE letter written by one of my dearest friends.
  2. Or do a funny card like THIS ONE or THIS ONE or THIS ONE.  You could also opt to send a Hallmark ecard – they even have faith-based options!
  3. Get them their favorite drink and use THIS CUTE FREE PRINTABLE from Landeelu.
  4. Bring them a simple bouquet of flowers from the grocery store.  A small bouquet of gerber daisies are happy and so is a sweet pot of tulips.
  5. Find out their favorite treat and bring that to them.  I looove high quality dark chocolate bars like THESE!
  6. THESE Birthday Cake Cookies from Amazon make the PERFECT addition to a heartfelt card.
  7. Balloons!  Tie them on their door knob to find in the morning.  Or to their car door.  Or desk chair.
  8. Tape a Burt’s Bees Lip Balm to a birthday card.  Or do an Eos Lip Balm and THIS FREE PRINTABLE. Or THESE Cake Batter flavored chapsticks would be so cute, too!
  9. Know someone who loves a good surprise?  Stick one of these Magic Fairy Flying Butterflies inside the birthday person’s card.  This is hilarious and SO FUN.
  10. Get them a Bible Verse Coloring Book and colored pencil set.
  11. Place a cupcake in their mailbox.
  12. Get them a cute monogrammed key chain like THESE.
  13. Send a text with the balloons feature if you have an iPhone.  THIS MAKES ME SO HAPPY.
  14. Send a text with a funny gif.  Search BIRTHDAY.
  15. Bring her this Happy Everything Bright Dot Tervis Tumbler filled with chocolates or a bunch of little notes saying why you love the birthday person.
  16. Tape a card to a bag of yummy TRAIL MIX.
  17. Email them a gift card to their favorite store.
  18. Sneak into their house and put some of this Happy Birthday Toilet Paper in their bathroom.
  19. Have your kids make them a homemade card.  These are THE BEST.
  20. Put “Happy Birthday” Confetti inside a card.
  21. Next time you are at Disney World, grab a few extra of their Happy Birthday buttons to personalize and give out to your birthday friends!
  22. Call them and sing to them.  Or play them THIS INCREDIBLE BIRTHDAY SONG << a tradition in my family!
  23. If you really want to go the extra mile in magic, sneak this Happy Birthday Yard Card in their lawn to find when they wake up!
  24. Give her a Happy Birthday Glitter Tiara or Happy Birthday Sash to wear all day.
  25. Offer to bring the birthday person their favorite breakfast, lunch, or dinner!  Food is important on birthdays!  Food like pizza. 😉

How do you like to celebrate your friends and family on their birthdays?

Joyfully,

Julie 🙂

  • We got fancy last night for our neighbor’s wedding. ‍♂️The wedding was about an hour drive away, so we had lots of time for car conversations without kids. This usually means that I vomit all the stuff I have been trying to process on my own and Ryan swoops in with a few ultra wise one-liners that talk me off the ledge. Things I learned on the drive... 1. Stop watching the news. Our souls were not made for so much information. 2. Never stop dreaming. Even if your circumstances are hard and you feel all your creativity and hopes

  • When I had covid, this precious mama of mine called me every day. She dropped groceries on our doorstep (and even decorated them with Christmas lights ). She had food delivered to our house. She wore silly Christmas glasses and FaceTimed me to make me smile. She watched every single one of My ABC Truth Tree videos and liked them. She texted me every day to make sure I was taking medicine and drinking enough water. She prayed for me and reminded me that it would all be okay when I called her in tears on Christmas Eve worried that

  • It’s hard to believe that 17 years ago I slept through my alarm, set my veil on fire, had 9 precious flower girls walk down the aisle before me, and we made a covenant before God that we would love and serve each other forever. We don’t do it perfectly, but, by God’s grace, we keep showing up. And he never fails to make me laugh. Happy Anniversary to the best man I know! . Photo Credit >> @heatherholtphoto ✨

  • Thankful for turkey-shaped pancakes this morning and the @macys Day Parade in the background while Jethro created with Legos and Noah ran around in the yard playing football . Ryan read on the patio and Zion requested us to blow bubbles for him. We feasted with family and now everyone is snuggled in bed . I am working on a really special blog post going up ✨tomorrow✨ while listening to our neighbors across the canal celebrate the end of Thanksgiving with a karaoke party. May the Lord bless you, sweet friends! Thank you for being a part of the Happy

  • You know it’s family picture day when I put on lipstick, no one wants to wear the outfits I carefully picked out, and there’s a 100% chance of rain! So thankful for @heatherholtphoto and her expert abilities to capture what feels like a mess and make it into something beautiful. That’s some Gospel inspiration right there. Here’s to a 2020 Christmas card!

  • ❤️How to Get Through Election Fears (and Everything Else Fears)❤️ . We must be diligent to wrestle our fears out WITH the Lord (and not in our own minds or on social media or in a pint of ice cream ). Plop yourself into His presence and tell him everything that is bothering you. Be real. Be raw. Cry. Be mad. Be disappointed. But then >> don’t stay there. Refuse to let go of the Lord until you are rehearsing Truth back to Him. Remember how He has been faithful in the past. Say to Him that you don’t understand
