Today I am going to share with you an idea that was probably my most favorite blessing received during our own crisis.
Shortly after the Happy Baby was moved to a different, larger hospital with better resources, a woman from our church delivered a red folder into my hands.
Later after our visit when I was alone in the Happy Baby’s hospital room and he was sound asleep in the crib, I opened the folder.
What I found was the most precious gift ever…
Page after page of Bible verses – each speaking to our crisis.
As soon as I finished reading the verses to myself, I scooted a chair next to my sleeping angel, cleared my throat and began to speak each verse over him.
As I read, I grew more and more confident that we would survive this trying season.
I grew more and more confident that no matter what, everything was going to be okay.
I grew more and more confident in my great and faithful God.
Reading through that Scripture Folder quickly became a little routine for us. It was an exercise that taught me how to fight against the enemy’s constant efforts to destroy my hope, plant seeds of doubt, and overwhelm me with fear.
A short while later another friend gave me a notebook filled with Bible verses – all written in her own handwriting.
She said in an attached letter that someone had made one for her when she was facing an incredibly painful season. She said she took her little notebook with her everywhere – reading it over and over.
I found myself doing the same – at red lights, in the middle of the night, in the pick-up line while waiting for the Happy Buddy to be released from camp…

Thank you for providing this resource particularly. A leader in my circle of influence just received a cancer diagnosis. For her daughter. I will be printing these out and sending them through old fashioned snail mail to her house.

A dear, sweet friend was just recently diagnosed with cancer, and I’m going to buy a box of cards and write a few in each one to send to her every couple of days. I can’t ever thank you enough for your blog and for all of your wonderful ideas. One of my best friends back in NC has been dealing with her husband’s Parkinsons disease for almost 15 years.. He has been through 3 surgeries this year, most latest has him in rehab for the next month. She teaches school, keeps up their home and property out in the country and is now driving fr om work to hospital. She is so exhausted – does not sound like same person on the phone.. I feel so helpless here living so far away, but now – got a praise CD to mail and just printed out the scripture folder. I was asking God how I could help when I read your Crisis comforts.
I have been using your craft and food ideas from MOMs. Thank you for all the time you put into helping other people… It is an amazing blessing.

My daughter, Karis (greek for “grace”) (www.karisalmy.com) was diagnosed with a rare disease called Krabbe Leukodystrophy when she was 5 months old. We were told she would probably only live another 7 months. Karis will be 3 1/2years old in December, by the grace of God. We have watched Him deliver her from pneumonia several times, even though each cough she gives is a miracle. September 4th she was hospitalized again for pneumonia but this time she had to be intubated. She was able to come off the ventilator (again, a miracle) and come home. Shortly after she came home she picked up a cold from our younger daughter and it quickly turned into another pneumonia. We are back in the PICU and I have been doing everything I can to not fall apart.
For some reason today was particularly emotional for me. I have been struggling desperately to combat fear. Normally when Karis is in the hospital we have scripture on her bed. I forgot the cards but had blank notecards with me and started digging through my Bible to put some new ones up. I shared them on facebook, asking friends to pray those scriptures over Karis with us. One of my friends shared this post and I am SO SO grateful you took the time to put this together.

You have been handed a very difficult path… I checked out your website and so enjoyed the adorable photos of Karis. It is clear that God’s hand is with her and you. Dear Julie, I have so enjoyed your blog for a very long time. My happy girl just started kindergarten, so a lot of what you share is so appropriate. Thank you for the grace in which you tell your story and that of the happy baby. You are shining the light of Jesus through all the circumstances of your trial. One of my new favorite quotes is “God’s plan for your life is far bigger than the circumstances of your day.” The author is unknown to me. That is true for every member of your family! Thanks also for the ideas to help those through a crisis. I just mailed off a journal to a colleague who has been diagnosed with cancer. I filled every page with a scripture, and many were off the list that you provided. Thanks for the idea and the resource to get me started. Blessings!

Ah! I, too, have been the recipient of the folder of verses and the hand-written journal of verses (I recognize in your photo the writing of that dear, dear friend!) and have read and prayed them many times! Our minds are such a battleground. Only by God’s grace and by His Word are we
kept on track.
