With all the candy floating around this time of year, I thought I would share with you a simple little RAK (Random Act of Kindness) that the Happy Buddy does every time we go to the grocery store.
I used to be a cashier for Publix stores when I was in college and let me tell you, checking groceries can get a little dull.
So we thought we’d spice things up for the person who is working so hard to scan all of our peanut butter and eggs and lots and lots of ice cream cheese and bread.
As soon as we roll into a check-out aisle, the Happy Buddy eagerly asks the cashier what his/her favorite candy bar is.
Once they give him an answer, he swings around to the display of candy bars to locate the one that the cashier said was their top pick.
Sometimes I give him a little help, but he usually has no problem locating the standard Hershey’s bar or bag of M&Ms. 🙂
Next he hands the candy bar to the cashier.
At this point, the cashier usually laughs and looks at me with a, “Is it okay for him to to be doing this????” face.
Then the Happy Buddy tells the cashier that we’d like to buy the candy bar for her to keep and enjoy!
SURPRISE!
It’s super fun to see their reactions.
This easy idea gets your Happy Buddies thinking of others and you get to cheer someone up with a little sugar.
Although it adds an extra 97 cents to our weekly food budget, we think that the pay off is worth more than a 100 Grand.
🙂
Happy Candy Bar RAK-ing!

God bless you!

What a great idea! I love that it gets the kids involved! So sweet! I’ve also heard of paying for the food of the customer in line behind you in the drive thru. I’ve only done it once. Your plan is super!

My husband and I do something similar. When we see a cashier or waitress, we ask ” is there anything we can pray about for you?” Talk about blessing us! And they are nearly always very grateful.

Next grocery store visit, we will try this. Praying we don’t get a diabetic cashier. 🙂

I love this idea!! I have a 4 year old daughter (and a baby, too!), and she will love this!!! I have been following you for a year or so, and I love your blog. I always mentally reply in my head but have never actually commented. I have followed a lot of blogs over the last few years, but yours is definitely a favorite. Probaby my most favorite! I love the ideas and the REAL LIFE-ness of your blog. My 4 year old is not a “textbook” kid, and I struggle with watching my friends parent their kids, and they make it look easy. I love how honest you are about struggling sometimes. Thank you for feeling like a friend, even if I don’t technically know you. 😉

Found you from a Christmas craft on Pinterest and I’m hooked! Love love love your stuff! For my 30th birthday, me and my kids did a whole day of RAOK and this is one I had my son do. It was so fun! I even had a lady stop me outside the store and tell me how thoughtful that was of him. I hope they can remember that and we can do it more often!
