I was having a breakfast CRISIS.
Let me back up – I get stuck in the biggest breakfast ruts. I will eat the same thing every day for weeks on end until I suddenly can’t stand it anymore and need something new.
Several weeks ago when my tastebuds were demanding a change, I sent out a text to a few of my friends asking them what they ate for breakfast. My friend, Laine, texted back a super short recipe and I knew I had found a winner.
Chocolate for breakfast?? Ummmm YES.
The first time I tried this Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie I thought maybe someone had accidentally slipped me a Wendy’s Frosty.
It was THAT GOOD.
But the difference between a Wendy’s Frosty and this smoothie is that everything in this recipe is healthy. Woohoo!
- 2 overripe bananas, peeled, sliced and frozen
- 1 heaping spoonful of unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 heaping spoonful of peanut butter
- 1-2 cups Unsweetened Plain Almond Milk
- Flaxseed (optional)
- Blend everything together and enjoy!
I am not even kidding you that I have eaten this smoothie at least 100 times since summer started. And I don’t think I am going to get tired of it.
I hope you and your kids enjoy it too!
Joyfully,
Julie
I make basically this exact smoothie for my entire family every morning – except I add a bunch of spinach. You can’t even taste it and it bumps up the nutrition 🙂
Kristy! That is such a GREAT IDEA! Thank you!!
We have no bread or really…anything…to eat at our house, and this smoothie saved the day! I froze some bananas before we left town earlier this week. So good!
What a great idea! Smoothies are a great way to sneak in veggies my kids have a hard time eating… also.. I like the idea of fooling my tastebuds into thinking I’m having wendy’s :0)
This looks fantastic i have all the ingredients. I think I know what I’m going to do this morning.
Could you add a small scoop of smart coffee to this?
This smoothie looks so amazingly delicious. I would like to know when is it best to drink this wonderful yummy looking smoothie? Is it more of a breakfast or dinner type smoothie? Or can it be taken twice a day as a meal supplement for breakfast and dinner?
Sanity saver! I have a recently discovered severe, serious allergy to both cow’s milk and dairy ice cream, but REALLY like both. No way can I have them, though, and I thought my days of enjoying any treat of that kind were over.
Now this recipe comes along, and I can not only have it, but it’s good for me! I’m a happy camper once again, and will be making minor variations/additions to this smoothie as I become accustomed to its thickness and other properties. The first thing that comes to mind is adding really good coffee in order to make a mocha smoothie. Spinach and/or baby kale come to mind, as does avocado….ah, yes, let the experimentation begin 🙂
HOW MANY CALORIES & FAT????
The only thing that’s ” fattening” is the ONEtablespoon of peanut butter. Cocoa powder isn’t fattening…sooo there’s really not much to worry about
Add powdered peanut butter, got mine from Sam’s Club!!
Can you give calories for this? Also, can skim milk be used instead of almond milk?
We added coconut milk since we didn’t have almond on hand today and it was incredible! Thanks!
How much Chia Seeds Can be out in this?
Obsessed with this smoothie, I’m not a big banana eater but I love this recipe. It satisfies my chocolate and peanut butter craving! I’ve been making it every weekday morning for over a month now and still am not sick of it. The frozen bananas are genius! Thank you 🙂
Ahhh I am SO glad! I am right there with you!!!!
No ice?
The frozen bananas makes it thick enough! 🙂
Can you give the calorie count for this smoothie?
Thank you!
How many calories are in this?
