So…
When I took the photos of the Happy Buddy’s Big Boy Room, he was swimming at Grammie’s house with his daddy.
With him gone, I set about putting every toy neatly in its place, made the bed up, and even dusted (which – the dusting part – like never happens).
I took my photos.
Then the Happy Buddy came home.
He took one look in his room and said, “Mommy, I don’t like what you did to my bed.”
And then he proceeded to mess up the covers and take every bin, toy, and book off the shelves.
He even turned the plastic sliding board over – just to make his point extra clear.
I had to snap a few more photos just to show you what the Happy Buddy’s room really looks like.
This is the reality, my friends.
Being kind of a perfectionist/control freak who thrives on order, this kind of scene sometimes overwhelms me to the point of hives.
But then I try to imagine 20 years from now when the Happy Buddy is off at college and I am walking aimlessly around our perfectly ordered, perfectly quiet home wishing for the days when my 3-year-old boy was turning over slides and making giant piles of Matchbox cars for us all to trip over.
Savoring the days of messy…
Happy Big Boy Room Reality-ing! 🙂

You are so right! Someday you will wish for the messes….Looks like my house when the grandkids leave. I babysit and my house looks like a daycare, but I am blessed!

And that day will come much sooner than you think. *experience talking*

Thank you for this!! As my oldest is 7, the perfectionist in me now tries to avoid the urge to re-clean her room, or create a “better” organizational system for her crafts. But there are so few years to go!

Thank you for this post! I am currently 8 months pregnant and sitting in our living room surrounded by piles of toys that I can’t get the energy to put away. Just looking around me was stressing me out. : ) It will be a sad day when the kids are out of the house and there are no colorful toys strewn about the house to “brighten” my day. I think I’ll let go for now and take some time to rest, sip some hot tea and enjoy watching my kiddos mess up the living room some more. Love his room, by the way! How cute! : )

I love it!! Someone gave me a copy of a poem when I was pregnant. I don’t remember the beginning, but the last lines were, “Get used to cobwebs, I’ve no time to sweep/I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep.” Thank you so much for the reminder.
