New Mommy Survival Kit

Mommy Survival Kit - such a cute and useful gift idea for a new mommy!

When a woman has a baby, baby showers or ‘sprinkles’ and well-wishers give everything imaginable (like diapers and powder and Boudreaux’s butt paste and an endless supply of toys and blankets) to help the baby survive life on planet earth…

But what about the mommy?

I can guarantee that hiney cream is not going to be all that helpful to mama on Day 4 of no sleep and no recollection of her last shower or meal (unless you count the desperate nibble of cabbage from the head she used to help relieve her mastitis).

So to help a sister out, here is the perfect gift filled with the items a mama needs in the days following her sweet baby’s birth.mommy survival kit.jpg#1 and #2 – Healthy on-the-go snacks to keep her energy up

#3 – Pack of Scripture Cards from Thriving Home Blog to keep her mind full of truth (#necessity)

#4 – Hand sanitizer before snuggles

#5 – Mother’s Milk tea (found at Whole Foods) to boost her supply

#6 – Dry shampoo because showers are a thing of the past

#7 – Yummy candle to create a calm ambiance in the event of a colicky baby

#8 – Lip gloss to add a little glamor to that spit-up on her shoulder!

#9 – Facial wipes when there’s no time to wash

#10 – Peppermints for fresh breath (and to encourage smooching with the new daddy – an important part of post-partum recovery)

*NOTE – A few of my readers informed me after posting this that peppermint is no bueno for nursing moms!  You can read more about it HERE.*

#11 – Cozy socks because a good pair of socks can cure just about anything

mommy survival kit2.jpgmommy survival kit3.jpgmommy survival kit1.jpgThrow everything in a container (I picked up an inexpensive glass jar from WalMart) and deliver.mommy survival kit5.jpg

But, let’s be honest, sweet friends.

There is really only one thing a new mama needs in the days following her baby’s birth.

New moms are faced with a lot of ‘noise’ (ie. crying, doctor’s advice, worry, fear, discouragement, the INTERNET, etc.) that can easily drown out the Voice that will keep a mom from checking herself into the loony bin.

That is why my favorite thing in this Mommy Survival Kit is the pack of encouraging Bible verses for moms that I found over at Thriving Home Blog (pick up your own set HERE).

Dry shampoo is an amazing invention and all, but it is no match for the powerful, refreshing, life-changing Word of God.

True new mommy survival really only comes from clinging to and claiming His promises on a daily basis.

mommy survival kit4.jpgSo as you prepare for the onslaught of baby shower invitations coming your way this Spring, consider making the mom-to-be something that will give her the tools she needs to make it through those first few months with her baby.

Something a little more effective than butt paste.

Happy New Mommy Survival Kit-ing! 🙂

Sharing is caring!

This is a great idea! The only thing that I’m going to change and suggest is no peppermints because they’re known to negatively affect breastmilk supply. 🙂 Besides that, I’m putting this in the mail within the next few days for my cousin who’s expecting twins!

  • We are celebrating that because of the cross we have the unwavering favor of God. Because of the cross we are pursued daily by God’s perfect love, we are offered forgiveness and freedom, and we are equipped with the hope of the Holy Spirit. Thank you, Jesus!

  • Things I’ve learned from breaking my tailbone >>

1. It is possible to wear only 4 outfits in 2 weeks.

2. God is more concerned with developing character and deep roots than about our physical comfort.

3. My children don’t love to see me bedridden, but they love that they have been able to eat nuggets, pizza, and fries for 2 weeks.

4. When you can’t sleep because of pain or wild imagination that is not helpful, put on worship music.

5. A good prayer to pray, “Show me the depth of my need for You and shatter my self-sufficiency. Change my mindset so that prayer becomes my first response in every situation. May I seek You in all things. Help me to put all my hope in You...”

6. Hold on to a sense of humor. Or find someone to get you laughing. Even though it will hurt to laugh. You need to not take it all so seriously!

7. God’s people are so precious. People showed up on our doorstep with lasagnas, flowers, sandwiches, Uber Eats gift cards, and one dear soul even sent her cleaning ladies to our house to undo the damage of mama being down for days on end. Whenever I was tempted to despair, someone would text or bring by some freshly cut fruit. The message here is don’t ask, just do > because every act of kindness reminded me of Who is in charge.

8. When hard times come, lean into gratitude instead of fussiness and resistance. Thank your husband for carrying everything while you’re down, thank your community for carrying you to Jesus, thank the Lord for being present in all circumstances with a plan for your good and His glory. There is a reason God tells us in the Bible to do all things without complaining or disputing-so that you. will. shine. It’s not easy, but the reward is GREAT. I want the world to see Jesus shining in me in my adversity. Doesn’t mean you can’t cry and admit that what you are facing is so very difficult, but this can be done with a surrendered heart. This is the new assignment. Accept it, receive it as something that is from a loving Father. Look for the provisions along the way. You will go from strength to strength. Move forward with hope. He’s got you!

Seems silly to pray about an overcooked cake, but I believe God is honored in these small acts of faith. Believing in the impossible was something God asked Mary to do, so why not trust Him to do the impossible here, too?

What impossible thing can we bring to Him in prayer today? He loves to hear from us. He loves to delight and surprise us when we choose to believe He is good and powerful and kind. ✨When we wake up, it will be Christmas!✨

I felt the Holy Spirit nudging me to bake a cake for a family very dear to us. I went to the store, bought the ingredients, and carefully followed the recipe. The recipe said multiple times not to overcook the cake because it will very easily become dry. So I watched the oven diligently. But when I pulled the cake out, I could tell it had baked a little too long.

God called me to bake this cake for this family. It wasn’t time to quit, but it wasn’t time to make another cake! So instead of getting discouraged, I chose to pray about it. I asked the Lord to take my offering and make much of it. If He can multiply the loaves and fish, He can moisten up a cake!

Precisely one day after delivering the cake, we received a text stating what I thought was impossible. The cake was good! Delicious even!

He is no magic genie, but I think when our desires align with His heart, when obedience is the priority, and we are fully surrendered come what may, we can trust He will do a good thing.

“For nothing is impossible with God!” Luke 1:37

“He satisfies the hungry with good things.” Luke 1:53

Sleep tight, friends!

Highlights from our week in Georgia visiting my parents…

🧡Seeing my parents. 😍
🤎Reuniting with my older brother and his family who we haven’t seen in 5 years! 🫶🏻
🦃Getting to stay in my parent’s new house. Home is where your mom is. 🤗
🧡Having a bird fly into the house after we got home from dinner on Wednesday night and watching my parents trap it in the bathroom and then go in their with tennis rackets and a trashcan to see if they could get it to fly out the window. Prime entertainment. 🐦‍⬛
🤎Seeing how happy the boys were to be with their grandparents again. 🤩
🦃Weather that doesn’t make my hair frizz! 🙌🏻
🧡Seeing my parents. 🥹

It was a really great Thanksgiving!

Grateful for all of YOU. Keep seeking Jesus. He loves you!
