12 Days of Christmas Kindness

When I am going through a difficult season, I find it incredibly helpful to focus on others.

I like to prayerfully ask, “How can I be a blessing to someone today?”  It gets my mind off my own troubles and onto being a part of the healing of someone else’s troubles.

Sounds like a good recipe for joy. :-)

Plus, it is reflective of the true spirit of Christmas as seen in Matthew 20:28 – “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”

Here are 12 easy ways to inspire you to be a part of making someone’s Christmas a little brighter.12 christmas acts of kindness

Happy Christmas RAK-ing! :-)

WINNER of the Chewbeads Necklace GIVEAWAY!

chewbeadsThank you to EVERYONE who participated in Happy Home Fairy’s Chewbeads Giveaway!

We had THE BEST time reading through all of the hilarious teething stories you wrote.

Apparently dog biscuits are a popular teething apparatus.  Ha!

And the winner of the FREE Jane Necklace (of your choice!) from Chewbeads is…

ERIN SHANK

Erin’s teething comment:

The MOLARS ARE COMING…THE MOLARS ARE COMING!!! Please don’t let our daughter gnaw through our little Boston Terrier’s rawhide bone! There’s got to be a better way then letting her chomp through the pretend hot dogs from our son’s play kitchen, right? Liked (loved) both facebook pages..thanks so much for this opportunity..been a fan for a long time.

Congratulations, Erin!

Don’t forget to check out Chewbeads to get some awesome accessories for summer. :-)

*Stop by tomorrow for a fun post revealing an email exchange between the Happy Hubby and me!*

LAST DAY OF VOTING! ENDS AT 11:59 PM TONIGHT!

Calling all Mommies!

The Fairy needs your help!

FAIRYToday is the LAST day of voting for the Parents Magazine’s Best Blog Awards.

The Fairy is nominated under the category “Most Likely to Make Life as CHO (Chief Household Officer) Easier”.

Winners will be featured in Parents Magazine!

One of the gals in the running started to rally her Facebook troops the other day and I quickly fell to 2nd place.

I am feeling a bit like Gideon must have felt when God shaved his army down to about 300 men and he was up against an army of thousands! Ha!

But I trust Him.  If there is a victory here for the Fairy then I know He can do it.  And if not, I will be okay!

And God will still be good. :-)

Plus, the girl that is in the lead really deserves to win.  She is amazing!

I am not going to lie – I will be slightly relieved once this thing is over so that I don’t have to keep petitioning for votes – I have never been good at or felt comfortable soliciting people.

In the end, though, whatever the outcome, this whole process has just brought me so much encouragement that y’all would even vote for me in the first place!

So, for one last time – will you please vote?  And please consider sharing this post with everyone you know?

Click the image below or click HERE to vote RIGHT NOW! :-)

Thank you so much for your help and faithfulness to this site.

You bless me more than you will ever, EVER know.

9 Days Left and a Valentine’s Day Recap

How was everyone’s Valentine’s Days?

I had a lot of fun staying up way too late putting up a few simple decorations in the kitchen for the Happy Buddy to find when he woke up.

Then I plastered the master bathroom with these ridiculous love notes for the Happy Hubby to find. :-)

The Happy Buddy and I put together this little “‘Riesens’ Why I Love My Teacher” Box for the gals who love on him at school every day – which  I just realized I misspelled ‘Riesen’ in the photos below!

love box for teacherlove box 2love box 3I love that the Happy Buddy sees discipline as something that is for his benefit. :-)

It was also Grandparent’s Day at the Happy Buddy’s preschool so I got to see him perform in the sweetest little concert, singing songs about how much Jesus loves him.

On our way home from that, we got to Heart Attack a sweet friend of mine’s house (I posted the photo of it on my Facebook page!).

Later, the Happy Hubby came home from work a bit early and watched the boys so I could take a quick nap – BEST VALENTINE GIFT EVER. :-)

Then my in-loves came over to babysit so the Happy Hubby and I could go on a date.

We went to Longhorn.  I am obsessed with their Grilled Salmon Salad…  Mmmm… Still dreaming about it.

Real romance here – I had to pump in the car while we waited for our table.  The Happy Hubby serenaded me with a stream of iPod favorites to drown out the wah-wah-wah of our delightful third wheel.

We ended our evening with some House reruns and then the Happy Buddy waking up every 10 minutes all night long because he had a fever.

Reality Check!!

One of the things the Happy Hubby and I talked about on our date was how amazing my Happy Home Fairy readers are.

This Parents Blog Awards competition has filled my heart to overflowing as I have been blessed by your support and votes.

I mean, the girls I am ‘competing’ (I don’t care much for that word as I’d love it if everyone could win!) against are AMAZING.

We’re talking they have like 50,000+ followers, incredible website design, beautiful photography, fabulous content, etc., etc.!

But for some reason – only the Lord knows! – many of y’all are voting for the Fairy (and my I-don’t-even-know-how-to-do-hashtags-on-Twitter-self), and that has been just so precious.

But things are definitely neck and neck and there are only 9 days left to vote!

You can vote once a day – and we’ve found that it is set up that you can vote 24 hours from your previous vote (so if you voted at 10 pm one night, you can’t vote until 10 pm the next night).

Would you keep voting for Happy Home Fairy and sharing it with all your friends and family??

Simply click on the image below and it will zip you right to the voting gallery.

To the Mother…

To the Mother who packed her child’s lunch yesterday, not knowing he might not eat it.

To the Mother who fixed her child’s hair, not knowing those strands of hair would be the last to grace the brush.

To the Mother who dropped her child off at school, not knowing the horror that awaited.

To the Mother who has presents stored in secret that will not be opened this Christmas.

To the Mother who had to drive to the school wondering if her child might not be there.

To the Mother who has to wrestle with cameras and news people while grieving.

To the Mother whose world has forever been changed by this tragedy.

I pray that in the coming days you will have someone to hold your hand.

I pray that you will have someone to weep with.

Someone who will read Psalm 23 or Psalm 121 to you.

Someone who will remind you of the Truth – when your mind wants to go places it shouldn’t.

I pray that you will sense His presence with you every second of every awful minute.

I pray that you will be overwhelmed by an outpouring of kindness and support from the Church.

And because this happened at the time it did, I pray that Christmas will not be ruined for you.

That from now on this season will not be one marked by pain and suffering.

But instead I pray that God will use this season to remind you of His presence among us.

Comfort that our Savior is HERE.

He came.

He came to conquer evil.  To overcome death.  To destroy the enemy.

This tiny baby…  This child…  He came at Christmas to rescue us… to bring peace, love, and hope…

Hope that one day we will be celebrating His second coming in eternity.

With no weeping, no hurting, no suffering, no violence, and no pain.

To the Mother in Newtown, Connecticut, I pray these things.

“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end.

He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever.” Isaiah 9:2,6-7

FREE 16×20 Photo Canvas GIVEAWAY!

Yesterday you went on a tour of the Happy Buddy’s bright and fun Big Boy Room!

Today I am sooooo jazzed to tell you that during the decorating process, I was contacted by Easy Canvas Prints.

They asked if I wanted to do a review on my blog of their product, as well as offer the same product to one of my sweet readers.

Now I get quite a few offers like this, but I usually turn them down because I am committed to keeping this site ad-free.  I never want you to feel overwhelmed by a whole bunch of extra stuff.

I only want to offer you the stuff that will help you build a Happy Home.

With that said, ever since the Happy Baby was born, I have had an increase in desire to fill our Happy Home with photos of our family.

We have been through a lot together and I want to preserve and celebrate the moments that have shaped us into the Happy Home we are today.

This photo of the Happy Buddy was such a sweet captured minute in the kitchen while the Happy Baby was in the hospital.  The Happy Buddy was so patient with me during that season – putting up with my being gone a lot and then when I was home, putting up with my blubbering like every 5 seconds.

Easy Canvas Prints was such a great company to work with!  Their website was easy to use, they run AMAZING promotions and offers all the time (like RIGHT NOW you can get 25% off all canvas orders as well as FREE Standard Shipping – LOVE!), and they are super speedy with delivery.

I had such a great time working with Easy Canvas Prints that now I am starting to think about heading over to their sister site, Build A Sign, and ordering a fun magnet for my car or even a bumper sticker advertising Happy Home Fairy!

The day my photo canvas arrived it was pouring like a monsoon.  I pulled in the driveway and saw the big package sitting in the rain and I got so nervous that the picture was ruined!  But Easy Canvas Prints wrapped it up so awesome that the canvas was perfectly dry and intact.

Then I immediately got to work on baking the Happy Hubby some brownies in order to finagle him into hanging it for me.

I think it looks just perfect in the Happy Buddy’s new Big Boy Room and is a reminder to me of this sweet lil’ guy who helped me survive a very trying season (and still is!).
