Snack Ideas to Celebrate the Easter Story

23 Mar

Breaking bread together is a great way to connect with your Happy Home.

And when that ‘bread’ is presented in a fun and interesting way – who knows what kind of learning and fellowship can occur?!

So here are a few creative snacks to assist you in teaching your Happy Buddies about the events that occurred during Jesus’ final days.

Did you know that the pretzel is a symbol of prayer?

Many years ago, Christians would cross their arms and touch each shoulder with their opposite hands when they prayed.  A pretzel (when turned upside down) is designed to look like arms crossed in prayer.

Jesus spent a great deal of time praying in the Garden of Gethsemane on the night before he was crucified.

You could make a batch of these simple pretzels (recipe uses refrigerated crescent dough) to talk about that evening.

You can read about Jesus’ prayer in the garden in Luke 22:39-46.

On the Friday of his death, the Roman soldiers made Jesus a Crown of Thorns to wear.

One more example of the suffering He endured on our behalf.

This recipe uses just 3 ingredients to help your Happy Buddies consider the sacrifice Jesus made for us.

Read about the crown in John 19:2.  And then read about the better crown we all will receive because of what Jesus did in James 1:12.

Another easy snack to inspire thoughtful discussion on Jesus’ death would be to make Hot Cross Buns.

This recipe uses refrigerated dough as the base and a sweet, simple homemade icing to make a shape of a cross.

Find more about Jesus’ work on the cross in Philippians 2:5-11.

This recipe for Resurrection Cookies is a wonderful tool for teaching your Happy Buddies the Easter message.

What’s so neat about these cookies is that you must make them on the evening before Easter Sunday.  They sit in the oven overnight only to reveal a glorious and exciting (and yummy) result in the morning!

This post has the recipe, plus lots of Scripture references and a devotion (and ADORABLE pictures) to help share the truth about Easter – cookie style.

“He is not here; he has risen, just as he said!” Matthew 28:6

Who needs Easter candy when there are so many more meaningful ways to indulge this season?

Happy Easter Snack-ing! :-)
