When the Happy Hubby and I were in college at Florida State, he led worship for a church called Wildwood.
We loved serving there and so enjoyed ministering to the congregation, but when the Lord called us to South Florida, we knew we wouldn’t be able to stay away from our Tallahassee friends for long.
So, every summer the Happy Hubby and I pack up our car and head north for Wildwood’s Vacation Bible School where we get to spend 5 amazing days leading 250+ Happy Buddies into the presence of the Lord!
It is AMAZING!
I get to wear my fairy wings and dump glitter all over myself for an entire week and only a few nobody gives me strange looks!!
This year the VBS theme was Rock and Roll – so it was especially fun.
The Happy Hubby got really into it.I think he looks pretty amazing with green hair.
Now all he needs is a tattoo of my face on his biceps and he’ll be ready for touring! 🙂We all got fun names for the week. My name was Julie Jamz – Jamz with a ‘z’ ‘cuz that’s how I roll.
We put together a rock band of super talented musicians who love Jesus. We learned some praise songs (I heart Hillsong Kids – most of our songs came from the Follow You album)! And danced our shoes off.I am not even kidding about that – we literally danced our shoes off! The kids brought in hundreds of shoes to donate to kids in Uganda on the last day of camp. It was so neat! That was the mascot for the week – Rocky the Penguin! He popped in and out of each day’s activities. Sometimes he would come to our music class and do all the dance moves and songs with us. The kids LOVED him!
Do you see that guitar Rocky’s holding??
Well… Throughout the week the kids got to memorize Bible verses. Anytime someone would memorize a verse, they got their name written down and put into a guitar case. On Friday during the closing ceremony, Rocky picked a name out of the case and that person WON THE GUITAR!!
A 1st grade girl’s name was pulled and I wish I had a picture of her reaction when the Happy Hubby handed over her very own guitar!
That’s me with ‘Microphone Mel’ – the creative mind behind the whole week! This gal is amazing. God gets so much glory out of everything she does! Plus, she is like a sister to me because she wears glitter every day, too! That’s right, ladies. He’s all mine.
There’s the Happy Buddy. He struggled a bit on our VBS adventure! Poor guy was seriously missing his crib. But all in all, he loved the music and hoop-de-la and made some great new friends! His face was absolutely priceless when his daddy came out of the bathroom with his rocker do!Every rocker has to have a bit of an ego, right? 🙂
Thanks for letting me share our rockin’ week with you!
What to expect this week on Happy Home Fairy… Lots of fun 4th of July magic!!!

Just found this post about your Rock’n’Roll VBS a few years ago. I am wondering if you used a published curriculum or if the church’s ministry came up with it all. I am searching for next summer’s theme for our church. I REALLY want it to be rock’n’roll theme, but I know i won’t have time to devise and entire curriculum for it. I’d love to hear what you guys used. Thanks, Andee.
