I shared today on Facebook that the Happy Baby just got his first tooth!!!
You can imagine that we are doing many a-happy-dance right now!
You learn pretty quickly that when your child has special needs, even the smallest of milestones met are something to celebrate.
I’ll never forget how bananas I went with excitement when we were in the NICU and the Happy Baby’s umbilical cord finally fell off (and yes, I saved it. I am creepy like that).
As we were celebrating the Happy Baby’s tooth, the Happy Buddy got all curious and started asking a bunch of questions about his own teeth.
And then suddenly we were discussing The Tooth Fairy.
Yes, we all know her!
I know her as the magical creature who took my tooth from the Dixie cup filled with water on my dresser and left 4 quarters in its place.
The Happy Hubby remembers her as the one who snuck a buck under his pillow while he slept.
I hear there are Happy Buddies these days who know her as the one who leaves $20 in exchange for their pearly white! That Tooth Fairy will never visit our Happy Home – haha! 🙂
And then I realized that I have never done a post about her here at Happy Home Fairy!
Being a fellow fairy, she deserves the spotlight today. 🙂

I love this darling little DIY Tooth Pillow from Martha Stewart.
This takes a bit of the burden off the Fairy from having to sneak under a pillow and not rouse a sleeping Happy Buddy! 🙂

Or you could have your Happy Buddy put their tooth in a jar filled with water.
In the morning the tooth is gone, the water has been magically colored to blue (with added glitter) and there is money at the bottom. Kind of like sunken treasure!

The tooth fairy just visited our home for the very first time last week! The tooth was left on the kitchen counter and in the morning it was gone & replaced with colored water (purple this time, likely to change every time). Next to the glass there was a pile of silver glitter with a gold dollar coin. I have no idea who or what gave my little one the idea that the TF leaves gold coins, but she was sure of it! Ha! 🙂
What should the tooth fairy leave when the tooth-loser is 12 years old and having the rest of his baby teeth (4 of them!) pulled in one day? Seems like this occasion deserves more than the regular visit from TF…I’m at a bit of a loss here!
I have to say that my Hubby and I experienced a very forgetful Tooth Fairy. At times she would forget to come for two weeks. Not sure where she was but the stories that came from us and the excuses we had to make for the Tooth Fairy were very creative. Needless to say the more days that were forgotten the bigger the amount that was left under their pillow. My Hubby and I used to laugh every morning when we thought the other was placing the treasure under the pillow. Sometimes we would place the treasure but would forget to take the tooth. Our Tooth Fairy was not very smart. My youngest, now 15, just reminded me as I read your post to him, that the most that was ever left was $20.00. Not sure if that was true, but in the eyes of a child anything more than $5.00 seemed like hundreds. I would like to suggest to Tera that she seize the moment after the trauma of getting teeth pulled to take him to Target, Walmart or any place that has a fun thing that will help distract him from the pain of the pull of the teeth. I used this many times for different trips to the doctor or dentist to make the memory a little more pleasant. Doesn’t have to cost much but the time spent will be remembered.
