One of my family’s favorite Christmas traditions is the Annual Lego Competition.
I mentioned in THIS POST how my mom rocks our stockings.
Well, for the boys (I have 2 brothers, the Happy Hubby and occasionally my dad), she puts a small box of Legos in their stockings.
Mind you, these are all grown men. 🙂
The reason for the Legos?
To have a competition, of course!
After the Christmas-everything is over and we are all ready to just sit around with hot mugs of something awesome (like my Snow Cocoa) and enjoy the bits of wrapping paper and ribbons that are twirling around our toes… Before we get too comfortable, the boys have to gather ’round the kitchen table with their Lego boxes, dump out the contents, and at the shout of “Go!” race each other to see who can put their Lego creation together the quickest.
It’s hilarious watching the boys try to become the year’s reigning Lego Champ.
I think my brother’s sweet girlfriend is quite entertained by our family’s bizarre rituals antics!
The Happy Hubby was a bit intimidated when he was initiated into this tradition that first year he was a part of our family. My brothers are kind of known to be Lego professionals.
*But check out how he is intensely flipping through that instruction booklet! You’ve got skills, my love!*
So his involvement, as he puts it is, “2 parts fun, 1 part humiliation.” 🙂
My older brother wasn’t home for Christmas last year as he, his wife, and 3 Happy Buddies were living in Germany. And this year they are settling in to a new home in Georgia, so I am thinking we may need to Skype him in on the action. 🙂
Does your Happy Home have an annual Christmas competition? A cookie bake-off? A gingerbread house-making contest? I’d love to hear about it!
Merry Christmas Lego Competition-ing! 🙂

Hilarious! My wheels are turning on what I can create for a new tradition. Everyone is getting older so what used to keep everyone entertained has warn out it’s welcome. You always put a smile on my face and joy in my heart just when I need it the most.

That looks like a fun competition! And I really don’t think you can get TOO old for Legos!

For Thanksgiving we did an awesome Iron Chef dessert competition, instead of the traditional pies. Three teams, a pile of surprise ingredients, one hour = fun!

I love that your family has continued this tradition. I hope to create some long lasting traditions with my little family 🙂

One year the grandkids were getting a bit too loud and wild. So I spread out a bed sheet and dumped our whole huge box of Legos out on it and announced that we were going to have a contest. Each child began building and then they asked if there were going to be prizes. Thankfully I had some Laffy Taffy in a kitchen drawer. When the time was done we had a few adults be judges. Each child got a prize in a made up catagory like Most Colorful building, Most Crazy Boat etc. Now the grandkids ask when they are going to have the contest.

We love Christmas eve traditions and have many like you guys. We have a takeaway (saves slaving away in the kitchen, and a real treat!) We invite any family members that are able to come over in the evening. I have five children of various ages, so bonding all of them is very important to me. We do many party games like: group jigsaw puzzle building competition, bingo, paper-chain making competition, pin the nose on Rudolph, hula hooping competition, darts, quizzes. Really any sort of competition, that all ages can do. I love to involve everyone! I actually prefer Christmas Eve to Christmas day! Our family will always go on a steam train to see Santa, and have a home-made mince pie! My youngest son always wears his pyjamas and dressing gown on the train (like the Polar Express movie) He is now 8, so it is now just a matter of time until he won’t do this any-more (sad face!) We all love a tradition, young and old. They stay with us our whole lives, and will always warm your heart. Merry Christmas xxx

Last year we started Christmas Minute to Win it! Lots of ideas on the internet and everyone wants to bring it back this year. We also started with Pajama Elves (also on the internet. It consists of a book explaining that their are elves that sew pajamas just for Christmas Eve and they are sewn with a special thread that makes it easy to go to sleep on that night. You can also get labels to sew in the pajamas to make them official and the book suggests where the elves may have hidden them, so it is a race to follow the clues and find the special pajamas. New traditions, but everyone loves them.
