There are 3 household chores you will never find me doing.
Unless, of course, I’ve spent enough time in the Lord’s presence to fully surrender and die to myself in order to gain His strength to go forth and do them.
Or my family has staged a mutiny because everyone is having allergy attacks.
#1 – Mopping.
#2 – Dusting (especially annoyances like fans, blinds, and chandeliers).
and #3 – Ironing.
I never, EVER iron.
Partially because I don’t really know how. And trust me, my mom and mother-in-law have both shown me. Sometimes I feel like my brain is like a beach bucket with holes in the bottom.
The Happy Hubby tells me I have selective memory. 🙂
Needless to say, as the wife of a worship pastor who likes to look his best on Sunday mornings, I do very little to accommodate his desire for wrinkle-free fashion.
The man has about 25 handsome buttoned-down shirts in his closet, but alas, if they are not the ‘wrinkle-free’ kind that I can throw in with the rest of the laundry and hope to remember to take out of the dryer on time, then they end up getting worn once (or not at all) and then put back in the closet to collect dust (which I stay far away from).
So my sweet Happy Hubby ends up wearing the same 2 shirts every week – often with a big crease in the front or wrinkle on the sleeve.
Well, Father’s Day is coming up and I got to thinking that it might be a nice surprise to collect up his dust-bunny-ed, wrinkled shirts and take a little trip to the dry cleaners. Plus, a few years ago I saw one of the gals over at How Does She? do this for her Happy Hubby and it sounded like just the thing my man needed before having to show up to church wearing his undershirts.
Now we are not regular dry cleaning people. It’s not a part of our budget. But this is for something (someone) special and I ended up finding a super inexpensive dry cleaners down the road from our Happy Home.
I may have felt like I should have been packing heat in order to safely go into said ghetto inexpensive dry cleaners, but we made it out alive.
And for about $20 the amazing father of my 2 boys is going to have practically 3 month’s worth of Sunday morning dressy shirt options.
🙂
Just a little Father’s Day idea for all my non-ironing-bloggy friends.

I am also a terrible ironer! I’ve found that the L.L. Bean shirts are actually wrinkle-free and will look perfect all day long. Also, I started doing a “wrinkle load”, because I so often forgot to take out the shirts promptly. Once a week I gather all dress clothes and wash a special load, making sure that it’s at a time of day when I’m sure to be home and available. I alert everyone, set an alarm, whatever’s necessary to make sure I get that one load out on time. All other loads can be left to sit forever!

Never noticed that he wore the same shirts all the time. I will promise not to say anything if I do!

I love this idea…and $20 sure doesn’t seem bad for so many shirts! Glad you made it in and out of the dry cleaners in one piece 😉

I’ll do your ironing (that’s my podcast time!), but you can clean out my fridge, I almost never do!
That’s a sweet idea. 😀

What a great idea!! I’ve been tempted to take a few items to the local cleaners to be pressed, but I’ve never thought about doing the whole wardrobe at one time!!!

Kimberly! Thanks so much!! It was such a great gift. I hope you will try it too!
