The Happy Hubby and I like to think that our son is a perfect angel when we release him into the world of PreK-2.
He would never do anything disobedient in school like tackle another child to the ground in a wrestling match over a toy.
Not the Happy Buddy.
But, yes, as a born sinner (along with the rest of us!), our precious little one has much to learn in the never-ending quest of ‘dying to self.’
His teacher quietly took us aside last week and informed us of the physical brawl that had occurred between the Happy Buddy and the poor other kid who hadn’t seen it comin’.
You can bet that I have been on my knees praying ever since!
Asking the Lord for wisdom as the Mommy and self-control for the Happy Buddy! 🙂
All that to say, as much as it pained me to hear of the Happy Buddy’s choices, I was overwhelmed with gratitude for the way his teacher handled the situation.
She was a true picture of the Gospel – giving the Happy Buddy big, unconditional love hugs – even while her words about his ‘kind-of-a-bummer-of-a-day’ were so freshly spoken.
I’m so glad that the Happy Buddy is surrounded by people who love and accept him in spite of his failures – they see him for who he is – a precious child of the King!
So, I did what any grateful parent would do.
I baked her some brownies. 🙂
Those, Happy Home Friends, are my Aunt Greta’s famous chocolate brownies.
They are seriously uh-maze-ing.
I baked up a batch and then created a little note to include with the treat.

And in case you were wondering if I was going to share Aunt Greta’s delicious brownie recipe…
Here it is!!!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 sticks butter, melted
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 4 eggs, beaten
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 4 T (heaping) cocoa powder
- 1 package semi-sweet chocolate chips
Directions:
- Cream butter, sugar, and vanilla together in a large mixing bowl.
- Add eggs.
- Add rest.
- Pour into a greased 9×13 pan.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes.

Oh my precious friend…..it wasn’t too long ago that I heard those EXACT words from whom we decided was the MOST AWESOME pre-k 2 teacher on the planet…… 😉
OK so maybe we heard those words on more then one day that year. Don’t you worry at all–they ALL have their good days and “kind of a bummer days”
Your sweet little buddy is SO blessed not only to have such a WONDERFUL teacher but also because he has the most incredible Mommy and Daddy ever!!! You are doing a GREAT job!!!!
PS–LOVE the brownie idea!! hopefully they haven’t heard about it yet on the “other side” so I can steal it for our teacher.
Okay, so I want your happy buddy in my class!!! What a wonderful idea, I know that teachers have to let parents know and that it isn’t a very fun thing to do. sigh

I love your Aunt Greta’s brownies! I have been baking them for years. Yummy! Right now in my class I have a cookie sheet that says, Brownie Points” ( got this from a teacher on line) Each time my students are caught being extra good I post a brownie. The goal is to get 12 ….then I will bake them a batch of your Aunt Greta’s brownies! 🙂

Julie – i LOOOOVE these brownies! (but we renamed them ‘Julie’s Brownies’) I have been making them ever since you gave me the recipe after Ryan and Jenny’s rehearsal dinner. They are THE BEST!!! Such a cute idea for the teacher…
Oh my 4yo angel did one better than that! He took a pink giraffe stamp (which he got as a “blessing” for his obedience at school, ironically) and stamped ALL OVER our neighbor/landlord’s brand new, just completed, wooden porch. OUCH! We tried to make him scrub them off, but they wouldn’t budge. So we decided he should do one act of service for our neighbors for EACH stamp… As he confessed to more and more we found 42stamps. YIKES! We knew that was too big of a punishment, but we couldn’t go back on our word. After a week of total lock-down, we had a H2H explaining how the punishment for our sin was too big for us to repay so that’s why Jesus had to die so we could be with God again. Big crocodile tears welled up in his eyes. Then we forgave him of the rest of his punishment. (which I had made an elaborate 42 link chain hanging in his room to help him grasp the severity! Lol) I think that was my proudest parent. Moment yet.
Btw, a small splash (like replace for water in box mixes) of cooled leftover coffee REALLY brings out a rich chocolatey flavor. Your brownies look DEVINE! 😀
