Every Christmas our family gathers to celebrate Jesus’ birthday with gifts, a yummy breakfast, a competition (more on that in a later post!), and lots of memory-making.
But my most favorite thing about Christmas morning (besides our annual Prayer Around the Tree and the inevitable magic of Forgotten Gifts) is…
My stocking.
I’m the kind of person who would rather get 8 million tiny gifts than one large thing, so stockings are where it’s at in my book.
And holy cow does my mom Santa know how to make my stocking seriously the best thing everrrr!
Last year I documented my stocking’s contents so that you could get a taste of the amazingness.
*I recognize how blessed I am to have this awesome mom (I love you, Mom!) who takes the time to find little trinkets and baubles that resonate with my personality. I am pretty sure she works on gathering stocking surprises the whole year long – beginning December 26th… I present this humbly… As I do all of my posts… Simply desiring to share and inspire. :-)*
First things first.
The stocking itself.
My incredible Aunt Tina sewed our whole family’s stockings – complete with hand-stitched names.
When my brother and I got married, she made stockings for our spouses.
When one of us had a baby, she added stockings for them as well.
And just recently my mom flew up to spend a weekend with my Aunt Tina where she learned how to make the stockings herself (since it seems our family is ever growing!).
If I had any luck with sewing I’d jump on that band wagon, for sure. But alas, I am afraid my skills end at crafting and 5-ingredient recipes and wearing an exorbitant amount of glitter. 🙂
Ready to dive in my stocking? Here we go!
Sooooo fun, right?!
(Do you see a theme? I am pretty easy when it comes to the things I like… If it sparkles, I will love it forever and if Mickey/Disney has anything to do with it, I will also love it forever.) 🙂
When the Happy Hubby married into my family, he could NOT believe how great our stockings were. His experience with stockings had been fun (lots and lots of candy) but nothing like the carefully planned and executed wonder over at our place.

Our stockings are not near as fun as yours! I usually get them one really fun item, candy and practical things like toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, etc. I like it that your mom put so much thought into your stockings as I am sure you do.

I really enjoy your post. However, I’m not sure that I got this one correctly. It only has the glittery joy ornament displayed. 🙁

At our house all we get our stockings. Each family member buys two or three things to put in every one else’s stocking. There is a money limit and we get lots of fun little things. Such as notepads, hair ties, lipstick, and our favorite snack, for me that would be fig newtons.

I am a self-diagnosed Christmas junkie! I absolutely love everything about Christmas…but I too treasure our Christmas socks! I am a mom to 5 and happy wife to 1….although 3 of our 5 have flown the nest….socks are still the favourite part of the morning! And my sister and her brood are the same. We love searching out little treasures for each person, and have always topped them off with christmas crackers. My sister and I find extra special “somethings” and gently open one end of the cracker and sneak “it” in…then watch in anticipation all the smiles and gasps on Christmas morning! Its almost like Santa has a second sight when those Christmas crackers have something that is perfect for each of them! I love the Lego idea though….hmmm it might be time to add anither tradition….yay!

Stockings are one of the highlights in our home as well. I am blessed with a fireplace in my house and the stockings hang from the Mantle. Nothing goes into the stockings until everyone goes to bed on Christmas Eve. Christmas morning everyone anticipates the fully stuffed stockings. We take the Stockings off the Mantle, head to the living room, the fireplace is in my dining room, and eat a warm freshly baked Cinnamon Bread that my friend makes us every year and open up all of the treasures in our stockings. I fill them with all sorts of fun things, Gift Cards, Make Up, Nail Polish, Jewelry, Socks, Candy, Cookies, and COAL,(depending on if you are naughty or nice). Just for fun, I won’t name names, but he (oops) always gets a little bit of COAL. This is by far everyones favorite part of Christmas morning.

BEAUTIFUL stocking! In our home, stocking included a few fun things but mostly shampoo, shower gel, and a new hairbrush!

I too have a mom who goes above and beyond with the lovingly wrapped stocking gifts. My favorites this year were some awesome new kitchen utensils, starbucks gift card, luxury bubble bath and lotions, candles, 2 boxes of sticky dots for all my crafting, sparkly eye shadow, and gourmet hot choc.
The favorite addition to my son’s stocking this year was a geode. He had to crack it open and it was the most sparkly surprise! You would have thought he found the mother load of diamonds(which he believes he did!)
Santa also left him a juicy drop pop and a box of Captain Crunch, both “outlawed sugar snacks” in our house 😉 At 7 he is sure that Santa must be real just because of those 2 gifts lol!

Sherri, that is SO fun!!! I love the sugar cereal surprise! What a magical treat!

I love stockings too. Mom/Santa made sure to put a clementine, apple, new socks, toothbrush and toothpaste, mittens, pen or pencils, a Christmas activity pad, and usually a special gift specifically picked out sometime throughout the year (sometimes on a vacation) that just seems to fit the recipient of the stocking. I myself like to put some of the similar things into my parents stockings but they usually get a toy. I started getting little cars for my dad (one for each that he has ever owned (still looking for ford edge lol) and he has kept them all on a shelf in his office/computer room. My mom she gets little dolls or something kitschy lol.
