Summer has been a treasure of quality time with your munchkins. You’ve played together, stayed up late together, eaten too much ice cream together… but now it’s time for school and you may be feeling a bit weepy at the thought.
There’s something about sending your little five year old into the big school building that stirs in your gut the idea that one day **not too far away** he’ll be wearing his cap and gown, heading off to college, and you’ll be left with a whole lot less laundry to do.
So, my tender-hearted Mom readers, on that first day of school, do yourselves a favor and instead of sobbing alone behind the wheel of your minivan, share a box of tissues with other Moms who feel the same way.
Have a Boohoo Breakfast together and let the tears fall as you each marvel in yet another milestone on this journey of motherhood.
If you are hosting this sweet little breakfast, keep it simple – muffins, fresh fruit, juice, tea/coffee.
And as a special favor, hand out small gift-wrapped packages of tissues with this poem attached…
I wonder what you’re doing right now,
And if everyone is treating you kind.
I hope there is a special person,
A nice friend that you can find.
I wonder if the teacher knows
Just how special you are to me.
And if the brightness of your heart
Is something she can see.
I wonder if you are thinking about me,
And if you need a hug.
I already miss the sound of your voice
And how you give my leg a tug.
I wonder if you could possibly understand
How hard it is for me to let you grow.
On this day know that my heart breaks,
For this is the first step in letting my baby go.
Happy Boohoo Breakfast-ing! :-)
