Happy Father’s Day – An Important Message from the Happy Buddy and the Happy Baby

father's day 1Hey Daddy!

Since it’s Father’s Day, I thought it would be a good idea to swipe Mom’s blog and give her readers some REAL material – like my thoughts on your awesomeness.

father's day 11You are awesome because you wake up early on Saturdays to make the greatest Mickey Mouse-shaped pancakes for me (even though I know you’d rather be sleeping).

I love how you drive me to school every morning and we count how many school buses, police cars, trains, and motorcycles we see.

I’ve decided to emulate your passion for all things chocolate.

father's day 3You are the only reason I would ever spend an entire morning pulling weeds.

I just love our trips to the Guitar Center.  You are so patient to stand beside me and listen while I give the world’s longest most incredible drum solo.

If it weren’t for you, I would probably lose all of my teeth because you’re the only one in this house who remembers to have me brush them.

father's day 2This year you took me on my first, real train ride.  Greatest. Day. Ever.

You don’t mind that I leave my toys and snacks all over the backseat of your car.

Words cannot even begin to describe the way I feel when you let me play on your iPad.

scubaIt’s the best when you take out your scuba vests and gear and we pretend to scuba dive right there in our living room.

I love it when you read the Bible while we eat dinner.

Thank you for letting me help you grill things.

father's day 9There isn’t another person on this planet who could have cared for me better – or cleaned up my puke without also puking – when I got the stomach flu during our Disney trip this year.

I love that you always have replacement nightlight bulbs on-hand.

I’m so glad you introduced me to Dubstep.

father's day 6father's day 5Thanks, Dad, for always keeping me in line.

It’s my favorite when we have marathon-TV-watching afternoons of Curious George.

I love it that we are the ‘Zerbert Guys’ and that we have a secret handshake.

Thank you for letting me permanently borrow your slippers.

father's day 4

I always look for your car in the driveway when we get home from somewhere because you are my favorite person on the planet.

My little brother feels the same way.

Mom says I need to share and let him have a chance to tell you some great things, too.

father's day 7Daddy!

You know just how to wipe diaper ointment on my bum.

If it weren’t for you, my diaper pail would never get changed and I would probably suffocate in stink.

Thanks for letting me chow on your iPhone.father's day 8

You always know how to get me laughing.  I especially love the bit where you sneak around corners and pop out at me.

It’s the best when you make me bounce on the bed.

When you’re off at work, I crawl around the house visiting your guitar and piano and shoes by the front door (yum!) because I miss you so much.father's day 10

I know sometimes it seems like I’m not listening and that you have to tell me 800,000 times not to throw my food on the floor, but it’s getting into my core.

You are definitely the best at snuggling on the couch.

I love your name so much that I call everyone and everything I see ‘Dadda.’

Thanks for always praying for me and being such a steady rock for Mommy.  I think she’d be a mushy banana without you helping her out through all my crazy health drama.

Come to think of it, we’d ALL be mushy bananas without you.

And you know how I feel about bananas, so we’re sticking with you for forever.

Happy Father’s Day, Daddy!

Lots of Love,

Your Boys

*Note – I feel like a better name for this post would have been The Evolution of the Happy Hubby’s Hair* :-)

Father’s Day Closet Surprise

There are 3 household chores you will never find me doing.

Unless, of course, I’ve spent enough time in the Lord’s presence to fully surrender and die to myself in order to gain His strength to go forth and do them.

Or my family has staged a mutiny because everyone is having allergy attacks.

#1 – Mopping.

#2 – Dusting (especially annoyances like fans, blinds, and chandeliers).

and #3 – Ironing.

I never, EVER iron.

Partially because I don’t really know how.  And trust me, my mom and mother-in-law have both shown me.  Sometimes I feel like my brain is like a beach bucket with holes in the bottom.

The Happy Hubby tells me I have selective memory. :-)

Needless to say, as the wife of a worship pastor who likes to look his best on Sunday mornings, I do very little to accommodate his desire for wrinkle-free fashion.

The man has about 25 handsome buttoned-down shirts in his closet, but alas, if they are not the ‘wrinkle-free’ kind that I can throw in with the rest of the laundry and hope to remember to take out of the dryer on time, then they end up getting worn once (or not at all) and then put back in the closet to collect dust (which I stay far away from).

So my sweet Happy Hubby ends up wearing the same 2 shirts every week – often with a big crease in the front or wrinkle on the sleeve.

Well, Father’s Day is coming up and I got to thinking that it might be a nice surprise to collect up his dust-bunny-ed, wrinkled shirts and take a little trip to the dry cleaners.  Plus, a few years ago I saw one of the gals over at How Does She? do this for her Happy Hubby and it sounded like just the thing my man needed before having to show up to church wearing his undershirts.

father's day closet surprise!!Now we are not regular dry cleaning people.  It’s not a part of our budget.  But this is for something (someone) special and I ended up finding a super inexpensive dry cleaners down the road from our Happy Home.

I may have felt like I should have been packing heat in order to safely go into said ghetto inexpensive dry cleaners, but we made it out alive.

father's day closet surprise! And for about $20 the amazing father of my 2 boys is going to have practically 3 month’s worth of Sunday morning dressy shirt options.

:-)

Just a little Father’s Day idea for all my non-ironing-bloggy friends.

Happy Father’s Day Closet Surprise-ing!

Happy Father’s Day – An Important Message from the Happy Buddy

Hey Daddy!

Mommy let me borrow her blog today so that I could tell everyone about how awesome you are.

There are like a billion things, but I will try to narrow it down.

First off, I love how you will play songs like Beat It and Sweet Home Alabama on Guitar Hero 17,000 times without complaining.

And it’s really great when you let me bang on the drums on the stage after church.

It’s cool how you’ve taught me super important things like the names of the drummer in Dave Matthews’ Band and the lead singer for Foo Fighters.

You’re teaching me how to protect our house (and Mommy) when we go Spider Hunting.

This year you helped me add French Toast to the list of 5 things I eat.

You don’t get mad when I visit you in your office at church and draw all over the whiteboard and dump all of the paperclips and rubber bands out of your desk drawers.

Thanks for teaching me how to swim and for taking me to the beach all the time.

You’re super talented.  I laugh so hard when you use funny voices to quote all of my favorite shows like Despicable Me and Phineas and Ferb.

You don’t care about messes.  It’s so fun when Mommy’s not home and you let me take out every toy, book, and puzzle that I own.

You know how to give me a thrill!  I’ll never forget when I got to sit on your lap and ride the bumper cars at the mall.

You’ve taught me everything I know about tools.  I get so happy when you let me use your hammer or screwdriver to help you with a project.

I love playing baseball with you.

It’s the best when I get to church on Sunday mornings and see you practicing with the worship band and you say hi to me in the microphone.

I feel so safe when you pray for me every night before bed.

I know you don’t really like watching that show with the big purple dinosaur, but you’ll watch it with me anyway without getting too upset because you love me.

You’re so smart.  You helped me figure out how to use toothpaste.

It’s amazing how you have this magical power to make me want to wear my big boy underpants.  I think you’ll be the reason I ever get potty trained.

Nobody can build massive train tracks like you.

You give the best big hugs.

Seriously.

You are simply the awesome-est.

And I love you.

Oh wait.

My brother wants to say something, too.DADDDDDYYYYYYYYYYYY!Thanks for always visiting me in the hospital.

You have some mad bottle-feeding skills.

I wanted to bust out of this joint last night to give you myself for Father’s Day, but the nurses were on to my escape plan.

They keep a pretty tight leash on me around here.

You should know that I think you’re the best Daddy EVERRRRRRRRRRRRR.

I can’t wait until I’m home and we can hang out ALL THE TIME.

P.S. Mom wanted me to say thanks to you for being so strong and tough for her while I am away.  I am pretty sure she’d be a big mushy pile of Jell-O without you holding her up.

Happy Father’s Day, Big Hunny.

We all love you so much.

Root-ing for Dad!

I was given the task of coming up with a fun little favor to give to the 250+ dads at our church for Father’s Day.

I had to find something that was inexpensive, easy to put together, and man-ish.

When I think of a dad, root beer comes to mind, so when I saw this brilliant FREE Printable tag from Nothing But Country -

I immediately hit the grocery store and ordered 42 6-packs of A&W Root Beer.

After visiting the Happy Baby at the hospital, I headed to the church where I was met by a small army of tweens and teens who helped me tag them all.

It must be said – staring at a table of 250 Root Beers is kind of inspiring.

I started to wonder if there were other Root Beer-themed Ideas out there that might bring about something awesome for you to do for your Root-Beer-Loving-Dad.

Here’s what I found!

Any Way You Slice It, You’re the Best Dad – FREE Printable!

Occasionally I ask the Happy Hubby strange, random questions like, “If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?”

His answer is always pizza.

So for Father’s Day this year, I knew what had to be done.

The Happy Buddy and I gathered up our ingredients and fixed the best dad ever some homemade pizzas with a special message.Ingredients:

  • 1 can of refrigerated biscuits (I get the Buttermilk Golden Layers kind)
  • Pizza sauce
  • Shredded cheese
  • 1 bag of Pepperoni Minis

Step 1 – Take 2 biscuits and half of a third biscuit.  Press all together to form a round crust.  Repeat this 2 more times so that you have 3 crusts.

Step 2 – Cover crust with pizza sauce.

Step 3 – Top with cheese.

Step 4 – Eat some cheese.  Yum.

Step 5 – Use the Pepperoni Minis to spell out the letters D-A-D on each of the 3 pizza crusts.  Sprinkle some Italian Seasoning on top if you’d like.

Step 6 – Bake at 400 degrees on a lightly sprayed cooking sheet for about 8-11 minutes.Deliver to dad with a brand new pizza cutter – like this funny one HERE that looks like a circular saw.

I bought it for the Happy Hubby and he immediately ran to get his safety goggles and headphones for the full effect as he sliced through his homemade pizza.

Do you like this idea and want to take it even further?
