Back to School Chalkboard Inspirations

back to school chalkboard inspirations

Chalkboards are notorious for being tools of discipline.

Whether you had to write the same sentence 6,000 times or stand in the schoolyard clapping chalkboard erasers, these popular tools of education have gotten a bit of a bad rep.

For me, during Circle Time in second grade I could not resist the girl that sat behind me who wanted to play with my hair.

**This is still a weakness of mine.  In fact, when I was teaching my own 2nd graders, if my students wanted Free Time all they had to do was send a kid to start playing with my hair and BOOM.  Lesson plans out the window.**

Well, on that fateful day when I was 7, the teacher caught us and made us write our names on the chalkboard as a punishment.

I’ll never forget that long, shame-filled walk to the chalkboard.

Thankfully, I found a few bloggers who know how to rock the chalkboard and make it an absolutely essential (and positive) part of the Back to School season.

Back to School Supply Scavenger Hunt – FREE Printable!

If you have even stepped two feet outside of your Happy Home, you know that the stores are overflowing with Back to School Supplies.

Does anyone else get a thrill out of a brand new box of crayons?? :-)

Last year I bought 75 boxes for 40 cents each at Wal-Mart.

I am not even kidding about that.

Here is a fun way to treat your Happy Buddies to their school supplies this year – give them a School Supply Scavenger Hunt!

It’s super easy.

Just purchase the basics – crayons, markers, pencils, notebooks, paper, scissors, glue, and a ruler.

Then use my FREE Printable Scavenger Hunt Cards to hide the supplies around your Happy Home!

Your Happy Buddies will just love racing from one rhyming clue to the next, filling their backpacks with the things that they will need for the new school year.

Here’s a peak at what your FREE Printable School Supply Scavenger Hunt Cards look like…

Click HERE for your FREE Printable School Supply Scavenger Hunt!

**GREAT IDEA ALERT!**

Want to use this School Supply Scavenger Hunt AND get your Happy Buddies thinking about others??

Simply put a double of each school supply at each of the Scavenger Hunt locations.

Then hand your Happy Buddy another backpack and tell him that he is going on a hunt not only for his own supplies, but for the supplies of a child less fortunate.

Finally, have your Happy Buddy donate the backpack to a local charity or organization that is having a Back to School Supply Drive – our church is donating backpacks and school supplies right now to 4 Kids of South Florida.

I think some Staples locations are hosting School Supply Drives as well.

Back to School Countdown Prayer Chain

back to school countdown prayer chain! have your child list several people at hisher school that you can pray for every day leading up to the first day of school!

The Happy Buddy will be starting PreK-4 {{gasp!!}} on Tuesday next week and I wanted to come up with a fun way to countdown to his first day.

I also wanted to get out of the rut we’ve gotten into with praying… It seems that we spend an awful LOT of time confessing sins and me praying for him to grow in obedience and kindness, but we have often missed out on the opportunity to pray for others.

So in an effort to combine the countdown and our desire to pray beyond ourselves, we came up with this Back to School Countdown Prayer Chain.

school countdown prayer chain - so cute!We gathered up several sheets of colored construction paper and cut out a school bus (like our countdown last year), as well as several fat strips.

We talked about all of the people at his school who work so hard to make his learning environment a wonderful, Christ-centered, nurturing place.  Then we wrote out their names on each of the strips of paper – his new teacher, his old teacher, the PE teacher, the head of school, the preschool director, some of his classmates, etc.

We stapled the strips together and pull off a new one every night before bed.

We have been doing our prayer chain for the last 4 nights and let me just tell you how much I LOVE IT!

I love seeing the Happy Buddy get excited about praying for these super special people.

I love that he is learning the importance of lifting up another person in prayer.

school countdown prayer chain - I love this! And I love that he has a cute visual of how much more time we have left until his first day (so I don’t go nuts answering that question 3,456,782 times).

Happy Back to School Countdown Prayer Chain-ing! :-)

“First, I want all of you to pray for everyone.  Ask God to bless them.  Give thanks for them…” 1 Timothy 2:1
